That ACTUALLY happened to me. J had gotten a knee brace for the bad knee and the good one began to hurt = and hurt so badly that I needed to have it treated RIGHT AWAY!
I just had a knee replaced four weeks ago, so this story arc feels pertinent to me. I get the other replaced in six more weeks. So little fun, so much time.
I messed up both knees in high school (gymnastics) and they randomly lock or swell for several days. It’s been a few years since they gave me any trouble but one swelled up and has been between uncomfortable and painful for over a month now. I really don’t want to find out it’s a permanent condition.
A friend in Chitown got both knees replaced about 30 years ago, six months recovery each, so a year total. New replacements four years ago, walked out of the hospital after three days!
Janis, two words: stationary cycling. Not only will you get a better workout and see a weight decrease (because that appears to be your concern), but your knee conditions will actually improve. Plus, you can do it at any time of day in any weather. The only possible downside is you don’t get to walk around the block and greet the neighbors. Also, it’s a great workout for Arlo. Some bikes have computers where you can track each other’s output and make a competition of it.
I have a Bad Left Hip ( Facing Possible Hip Replacement I’m trying to Avoid.)and My right Hip/Leg will start to hurt due to My Compensating for the Left Hip.It is a Normal Thing which occurs with injuries, etc. :-)
I used to have one bad knee. Now I have a bad knee and a worse knee. It sucks getting old (but, as noted above, the pain is a reminder that you are still here)
Last year husband had terrible pains in his left shoulder/arm – bad enough that we ran to the emergency room thinking it might be a heart attack – he had a knot in his shoulder muscle and “a bit” of arthritis in the back of shoulder.
He was complaining to me about the pain and that I had no idea what pain was like. I looked him square in the eye and said “Should we go by timeline or the body part?” Pointing as I went – "left knee, virus in 3rd grade, still hurts on and off, left ankle torn in high school (the one that has to be popped), right knee – fell on with full weight (and I weighed 70 lbs more then than now) twice – and second time was at start of vacation and kept walking the entire trip, and bursitis twice in left shoulder. I told him that I was not including my collar bone which I broke at 3 years old as it did not hurt me when I broke it to the point that the doctor decided nothing was wrong or it would hurt (1956) until mom insisted it be X-rayed and the break was found.
Other than my left arm being taped to my chest when I broke my collar bone and a knee brace (sewn to figure 8 ace bandage) for my ankle, nothing was done about any of same.

You threatened the knees with replacement yesterday. Must be a knee insurrection.

When one part of my body hurts I favor it, thus pissing off my other body parts, kind of like my kids, so I just can’t win.

Destry, pretty close to what I was going to say, but more with your own style.

Normal when the warranty on the body expires, typically at about 35. My favorite is rolling out of bed and pulling a muscle from “the exertion”.

This is kind of a downer arc Jimmy. :o(

Limp too much on good paw, then gradually injure the good paw, soon won’t have any paw to stand on.

I had to have my “good” knee replaced before the “bad” knee because it started hurting so badly that I couldn’t walk.

Let’s face it, folks. We’re getting old and falling apart.
Aristotle must have coined his phrase when he was young. Because as I get older it seems like the whole is less than the sum of my parts.

As she put the brace on her left knee, her right knee goes “1, 2, 3, PAIN!!”

Get used to it, Janus. Pain is the universe telling you that you are not dead, yet.

I will note, here, just in passing, that the solution is NOT the purchase of an additional brace.

Forgot, broke baby toe on each foot also.
