Yeah, Gorrell. Impeachment of YOUR GUY is not very newsworthy at all.

Not like, say, Hillary’s emails, right?

It’s the nature of the beast. Did Burrell complain four years ago when Trump, the bigliest media ho, made a circus out of the Republican primary process? Not to mention the election itself.

The ratings of cable news shows are irrelevant. The one cable “news” entertainment channel, which brags about ratings, gets its tail beat by the half-hour prime news shows on the established channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, plus local affiliate news). They also get their tail beat by the Simpsons, Spongebob, and Family Guy. I wouldn’t go with any of those to get my actual information, however, even though Homer, Patrick Star, and Chris Griffin exhibit far more honesty and integrity than that certain cable “news” entertainment channel, I prefer to get my information from real news sources, even if “nobody watches them”.

Yes, the networks are making money off the spectacle. However, they didn’t cause the impeachment proceedings, Trump did.

The crisis was set in motion when Hair Groppenfuhrer was elected on a platform of lies, deception, nationalism, and craziness. This is hopefully the end game when corrective actions are taken to end the crisis.

If there’s one thing Gorrell reuses most often, it’s this news anchor:

    https://www.gocomics.com/bobgorrell/2018/06/12

    https://www.gocomics.com/bobgorrell/2017/09/26

    https://www.gocomics.com/bobgorrell/2017/01/31

    https://www.gocomics.com/bobgorrell/2016/10/13

    https://www.gocomics.com/bobgorrell/2016/05/23

are just a few examples. the news anchor’s arms are folded in the exact same way in each and every one of them. only the layout of the screens behind him and the name of the news network changes.

This take “they’re only impeaching Trump because of ratings” is only slightly less lazy than yesterday’s “wah they’re being SO unfair!” Rightwing cartoonists cannot convince anyone that Trump is innocent so they are grasping at straws.

Yes the media is largely responsible for creating Trump by giving him hours of free coverage during the 2016 election.

Yes Trumps impeachment would be good for ratings, but there is one way to make sure they don’t get ratings:

    RESIGN NOW!

The more of Trump’s people being grilled by democrats in congressional hearings on live television the better it is for ratings.

Today’s media is no different than the press our Founders framed in the 1st Amendment. Their primary function then, as now, is making money. Note that our Founders said nothing of reporting the ‘truth’, only just that “Freedom of the Press” is law.

Our Founders made a government of “self rule”. It is the citizen’s responsibility to make the effort to find the truth. Every one of us is supposed to separate the fly stuff from the pepper to find the truth, vote responsibly, and govern ourselves “in Order to form a more perfect union”. Some don’t, or won’t, make that effort. When Washington became our first president the saying by new ‘Americans’ was ‘Let George do it’. So this is nothing new. Some will cheat knowing that effort will not be made.

Look up the election between Adams and Jefferson and the stories in the press then. ‘Fake news’ is not new to this Nation either.

WE, the People get the government we deserve. conservatives resist change, prefer everyone in lock-step obeying one leader. Liberals prefer growth to make that more perfect union, and encourage other views and opinions. There surely are splinters off of those views, but it all emanates from there. conservatives oppose our Constitution, and twist history to represent that which is not true. conservatives are the enemy of the U.S. and have been since 1774.

Unfortunately, with all news agencies, they have to pay the bills and good ratings helps do that. Only PBS can afford to tell it like it is and not worry about such things. As long as there’s been TV there’s been a battle of the sponsors likes and the need to provide unbiased news. A widely acclaimed movie, “Good Night, and Good Luck” portrayed the early days of TV news and the work of Edward R. Murrow. The movie shows the work that went into putting together programs during the McCarthy era and the battles that ensued between the writers and the producers who dealt with the sponsors.

Interesting, Bob, that you’re praising “cable news”.

You must be, since Trump himself (your guy) keeps insisting that “ratings” are the ultimate (only?) criterion for separating “the winner” from all the rest (“the losers”).

Foxnews has certainly been working overtime trying to maintain the illusion that christian conservative fealty to Trump ideology of no actual interest in our country merits public support.

So, if they’re seeking ratings above all things, it must be true that most of their potential viewers want to see The Big Orange One in hot water or worse. I suspect that Mr. Gorrell didn’t think this all the way through. Which is often his style.
