I am pretty persnickety about how my hair is cut and never minded spending for a good cut and style. I no longer have to spend the big $$ for a barber/stylist. My wife, who worked as a barber while putting herself through university, cuts my hair and does a terrific job. I haven’t paid for a haircut in 6 years.
I live in section 8 (low income) housing, we have a woman who comes in and does haircuts once a month for $10. Since I have naturally curly hair I get my hair cut about once every 4 months and then wait until it starts curling up uncontrollably before I get another cut so having such curly hair saves big bucks every year. When I was growing up my mother cut everyone’s hair and she got real good at it since there were 8 kids plus my dad to practice on (she was the only one who had to get her hair cut somewhere else since she couldn’t do it herself), she even did most of the grand kids and maybe even some of the great grand kids before the alzhimers got to her).
My Mom went through that phase. She was good at a lot of things, but she was not a barber, even with the instructions that came with the Sears-Roebuck clipper.

I get my haircut approximately every other month and it costs me $12 per visit… so I save $72 yearly.
