Use a large industrial weight black plastic trash bag and she can pick up everything that does not seem to have a home, easy to find as that stuff is just laying there. When she’s finished the place looks tidy and the kid has learned a lesson about messes (& the people the mess offends).
You have a choice he is unaware of, Betty – tell him either do what you ask, or pack your stuff and leave and give him about 5 minutes to pack. If he packs his stuff, he won’t be gone long. Works like a charm.
