This circles back to something I have said occasionally for some time: If he’s so ‘innocent’ why the draconian attempts at secrecy? People that afraid of revelations are usually hiding something horrendous.
Democrats trust scientists.scool teachers, college professors while Republicans trust the military, religious, and political leaders. Both Democrats and Republicans can be deceived by pretenders to the roles they put their trust in. If they respected each other they could easily weed out the pretenders and make positive progress for everyone. What is it that thwarts the trust in their neighbors that only emerges in times of severe stress?
Republicans see no evil in their fellow Republicans. That’s why they continue to give us evil presidents and other politicians. (McCarthy, Nixon, Trump, McConnell etc.)
Later we found out that he scuttled the Paris Peace Accords for political advantage (which he didn’t even need to win), costing thousands of Lies. So there’s that.
As Watergate was unfolding, I had the feeling that if Nixon had simply said in the beginning, “Yes, what I did was wrong. I listened to bad advice. I’ve fired everyone involved, and it will never happen again,” the whole mess likely would have gone away. But the extensive lying and cover-ups brought him down. The difference today is that back then, there was some adherence to the rule of Law. Today, not so much, certainly not from the AAP (All Aryan Party formerly known as the GOP).
I had to laugh out loud when I read today that the Liar-in-Chief wants Adam Schiff to resign for allegedly lying to Congress about the transcripts. Let’s see, who all has trump lied to besides the whole country and then some? And now Putin is worried that transcripts of their conversations might be released. Worrisome!!
It wasn’t, really – it’s just that, back then, we hadn’t yet become inured to the notion of Presidents breaking laws AND telling bald-faced lies about it…
The Ukraine phone call doesn’t bother me nearly as much as Trump’s private meetings with Putin, with NO American translator present. (As for Helsinki, when Trump came out of that private meeting with Putin, and then defended him—“Why would it be Russia?”—even Steve Bannon, of all people, pointed out that Trump looked like a whipped dog.)The bribes that Trump takes OPENLY weren’t enough to get the Dems to begin impeachment? But the cover-up of the phone call was? Oh, well, let’s enjoy the ride.
Let Reagan be Reagan: problematic; Let Trump be Trump-all the negative adjectives in Roget would miss the blackhole of his vile nature and what Americans of conscience now face.
The GOP hardly ever innovates: They are conservative, after all. But when they do invent something, it’s almost always a way to do a bad thing for society or the world.

Everything about this administration is worse than the Nixon administration.
Nixon never bragged “I could carpet bomb Cambodians on 5th Avenue and my supporters will still love me!”

In this case, Trump does the crime out in plain site and brags about it being legal as his right.

Humpty Trumpty’s Legacy{a rhyme and a coda}
Humpty Trumpty has splattered himSelf!!
The debris is so mangled, not even an elf
who’s adeptly magical
can put back together
a scene so tragical
in this hellish weather
where Trumpite cyclones continue to blast
with devastation unsurpassed.
…Coda:
Trumpismo’s legacy
is an abject heresy
which won’t soon go away.
Trump has UNmade our day.
