Neither Andrew Johnson nor Bill Clinton got convicted in the Senate and removed from office (Johnson’s accusers fell ONE VOTE short of the two-thirds margin; Clinton’s accusers could not even get a majority as even some Republicans failed to join in the obvious political hit job.)
Ironically, the only president actually removed from office because of the impeachment process was Richard Nixon never faced an official impeachment. The Articles of Impeachment had passed out of committee and were on their way to the full House, where they faced certain passage. But before the full House could vote, a contingent of Republican senators, led by Barry Goldwater, went to the White House and told Nixon that, with the overwhelming evidence, he would definitely be convicted in the Senate and removed from office (with Republicans voting against him) and, to prevent such humiliating defeat, Nixon resigned to preempt it.
As Mitch seems to be having second thoughts, maybe the process will get the Senate members to finally realize their IS a Constitution, and nation, deserving of their loyalty, which Bonespurs is NOT!
All other things equal (which Putin’s Bitch Mitch will prevent), if Clinton deserves a simple picture on the wall for his mistakes, Hair Furor deserves a room of his own for his outright criminality (and arguably treason).
he only thing clear from Pelosi’s speech yesterday, is that she has her base’s number. Absolutely nothing changed, but based on the comments from around the left (and here as well), you would think some momentous change occurred. The same committees that had already been investigating are going to keep investigating. That’s all that happened.
It is my understanding that once the house votes for impeachment, that president is considered as being Impeached. The senate then votes to acquit, or uphold.
The House must pass a resolution listing the Articles of Impeachment (charges) first. I would assume this would be preceeded by investigations establishing the evidence. Hair Groppenfuhrer has not been impeached yet. If any of the Articles are passed, House members then present the case to the Senate, who votes on the charges. A 2/3 supermajority vote of senators is required for the president to be found guilty and removed from office. The sentence is not subject to judicial review.
The process is so slow moving, red tape, protests, etc, our govt needs a reality check! This isn’t what is described as a swift and justified trial and sentencing! We need to take a look at the UK’s SWIFT court proceedings! They wasted NO TIME ! much like our congress does….dragging out everything to the enth degree, and wasting tax dollars in the process…..
From what I’ve just read, the Senate read the “summary” of the transcript of the phone call that the White House released. The GOP members now say that they saw no pressure put on Zelensky in the transcript. I believe this was exactly what Mitch planned on happening.

Impeachment inquiries now. Impeachment vote after the election when there may be a slight chance that Senate Repubs no longer fear a defeated trump.

Trump’s base will be energized of course. I think the next ‘her’ in Trump’s lock her up chant will be Pelosi.

Would impeachment prevent the Orange One from pardoning all his incarcerated ‘advisors’ and other (Mark) Rich – like felons?
Or must we stand outside the prison gates with our legally-purchased Uzis? /s

Careful, Nancy, make sure you have all your ducks in a row or your picture might just find it’s way on the wall.
