Linus walks with Charlie Brown and says, "When I grow up, I think I'll be a great prophet."<BR><BR> Linus continues, "I'll speak profound truths, but no one will listen to me . . ."<BR><BR> Charlie Brown and Linus stand at the wall. Charlie Brown asks, "If you know ahead of time that no one is going to listen to you, why speak?"<BR><BR> Linus replies, "We prophets are very stubborn!"<BR><BR>

“O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily. Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.” — Jeremiah 20:7-9
No one wanted to listen to Jeremiah either, but to hear him tell it he didn’t have much choice in the matter. And we all know what happens to prophets who try to shirk their duties. They get swallowed up by whales.
