The Sharpies that DO write — aside from the ones Trump uses to falsify official documents — are the ones the NRA uses to sign the checks (and threats) to the senators and congresspersons — the carrots and sticks — with which they control their bought-and-paid-for puppets and ensure that they will continue to sacrifice our children on the blood-spattered altar of greedy gun manufacturer and NRA lobby profits.
Other modern industrial nations have video games.
Other modern industrial nations have mental illness.
Other modern industrial nations have common-sense gun safety standards (including those like Canada and Switzerland, that have high levels of gun ownership, and manage to maintain standards without infringing reasonable access).
Other modern industrial nations do NOT have epidemics of deadly gun massacres.
The USA does NOT have common-sense gun safety standards and we DO have an epidemic of gun massacres.
The blanket designation “Congress” ignores significant differences in the ways a particular category of members tries to deal with this issue vs. the other side. This is one reason I find the call to vote ‘em all out a half baked idea. A barely toasted idea, actually.
Until we can somehow get “Citizens United” reversed, and get the MONEY out of the electoral process, we will continue on this slide toward self-destruction.
No other civilized Nation on Earth that has a functioning government disregards the safety and welfare of its people in the interest of profits to a minority than does America. Focussing on mental health and background checks is a red herring that will solve nothing. Eliminate access to assault-type weapons and high-capacity magazines to the general public and we’ll know you’re serious. Do nothing and you’ll deserve world condemnation.
We need to have a federal government that works for the nation, not 50 states competing to get the biggest slice. We need qualified representatives selected by sortition, not mostly ivy-league wealthy old white christain males in an election system only the wealthy can afford.
We have every thing we need in place, and working right now. Machine-guns where reclassified (titled) in 1934, because of their extreme firepower. The constitution was not damaged, it was managed. Technology has introduced a new threat to public safety in the form of high rate of fire semi-autos. The unaddressed issue is, these high technology firearms are currently classified exactly the same as a single shot .22. That is not right.
I believe the way forward is reclassification of high capacity, high cyclic rate, firearms as titled weapons. Reclassification does not require any buy backs, or bans, or confiscations. What it will require is a higher standard of ownership. Titling of “assault” weapons would end private sales for these guns, requiring FFL transfer, but still allow non-titled guns to be bought and sold as we do now. -gnome
Remember in November 2020, you can vote for Loyal, Decent, Law-abiding Americans that believe in their country, helping their fellow man, and supporting the U.S. Constitution.. or you can vote for republicans.

When congresscritters stop accepting gifts from special interests (NRA) and actually writes common sense gun laws, maybe we’ll see some progress.

Dem gun laws have been sitting on Moscow Mitch’s desk for over 200 days.
Putin’s Mitch is waiting for Trump to order him to put it to vote, nudge nudge, wink wink.
Corrupt Trump changed his mind when the NRA reminded him of how much Russian money they had provided for his campaign.

ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) will be happy to provide “model” legislation written by the Experts on the subject over at the NRA.
