The assault weapons ban WAS considered reasonable gun control when the NRA represented gun owners rather than manufacturers and sellers. Beto is asking for a return to that legislation because the NRA and RW fear-mongers encouraged people to buy more guns. The AR-15 was marketed as “get your man card”.
If I were asked straight out whether assault weapons should be available… particularly if I’d been dealing personally with the El Paso victims, I’d probably have gone off as loud and wrong as he did. But it’s no way to get elected… well, maybe, maybe get on the ticket as veep to a NE woman, but probably not.

I’ve seen at least 3 RW cartoons on exactly this meme. They could almost be copies of each other. The fact that this isn’t what he said is irrelevant to them.
So is it gun owners themselves that are afraid a Democrat president will literally take away 393 Million guns in peoples homes ? Or is it Republicans and the NRA who are trying to freak people out ? We have too many deaths by gunmen who should’ve been barred from ever getting a gun and its never going to come to law abiding citizens getting guns taken away
