    School shopping was one of the times that being the only boy paid off. Unlike my four sisters, I never got hand-me-downs.

    In my family we spent the last half of the summer picking cherries and blueberries and then we were allowed to spend the money we made on whatever we wanted for school supplies, clothes, and whatever else we had money for.
