Actually, Daedalus DID urge Icarus to sore through the skies.

Propelling myself, I tried to get the swing to circle around the top bar, but I could never get it that high. If I got too high, slack in the chains robbed energy.

What happened to “Just gimme a push to get me started”. Alice has too much power.

What a nifty line in the last panel! Who else would think to guilt their Dad into more pushing? But Japan? Come on Mr Otterloop, this is bigger than NASA! Keep going!

I wonder what kinds of medications they would have Calvin on now. I’m sure someone would try to stop his hallucinations of a real tiger and the Walter Mitty escapades he occasionally takes.

Although Daedalus did urge Icky to become a flyboy, he did warn him not to fly too close to the sun. But Icky got sticky when he took the heat and the wax and his flight waned!

Greek’s Neck? Is that a mispronunciation or is it place near Cul de Sac?

Alice was just one super-push away from sharing the fate of Ikaros—a tumbling star, falling from high in the sky!

You should thank Daddy for saving you from a bad fall. Alice.

Interestingly I recall the original version of this cartoon had different wording in the 4th panel … Instead of “Geek’s Neck and France and Japan” the original wording was “Ocean City! And even France!” as seen in the 2014 Richard Thompson exhibit at The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library.
