As an undergrad I ran concessions at the college events. After one concert, I walked to the bank with about 25 lbs of cash in my backpack. Back then candy bars were 25 cents, so I had a lot of change.
Britain went to the decimal pound in the 1960s. Now it’s 10 pence to the shilling and 10 shilling to the pound. A lot easier that 12 pence to the shilling and 20 shilling the the pound. And don’t get me started on tuppence, thruppence, quid, bob, crown, half-crown and the guinea.

And then there are shillings, and tuppence, and thruppence, and quadrapence, and pentapence. Just don’t ever take a hexapence—that’s a WITCH.
