I doubt that a trade war benefits Trump personally. I think he thought he could teach the Chinese a lesson for various transgressions and he found out it wasn’t so easy. In fact if the economy is damaged it’ll probably cost him a second term.
American Govt needs to overhaul their policies to bring them to modern day tactics! These tariffs are KILLING WE the PEOPLE, just so he can play big man on campus….
“Accept the pain,” says Lindsey Graham. I suppose he’s saying it won’t hurt for long. But fear not! A new distraction, or a new pain to accept, is on the way; “President Trump is so eager to complete hundreds of miles of border fence ahead of the 2020 presidential election that he has directed aides to . . . aggressively seize private land and disregard environmental rules, according to current and former officials involved with the project. He also has told worried subordinates that he will pardon them of any potential wrongdoing should they have to break laws to get the barriers built quickly, those officials said.” This from the Chosen One who took an oath to uphold the Constitution.

China works on 10 year plans, Trump can’t put together a 10 day plan. This not a war; it is an assisted suicide.

At least there’s not a storm in this metaphor. Whereas in reality, there probably is.
