When I was stationed in Germany I found most Germans I knew to be less puritanical than most Americans. They were not afraid of sex, drugs and rock and roll. Unfortunately for me they really loved disco. Yuck!
As a german who now lives in the USA, I have to say the worst cultural shock wasn’t seeing an Aldi (of all german stores, an Aldi?!), but the difference in TV. Especially a 4pm showing of “Predator”. Exploding head? No problem! Over the top violence? No problem! Swearing? For the love of god, think of the children!
