If the world really was just a bunch of independent nations, then extreme nationalism would be smart… and it would be completely fair to say “It’s your problem, you solve it!”
But the world really is massively interconnected, and to some extent the problems in Syria were caused, or exacerbated, by folks who are now turning their backs. Understandable, and maybe even smart… in the short term but festering social wounds always cause a reaction that in today’s world can be extremely deadly.
