Big oil (now big “energy” as they’re into all forms of alternatives as well, just watch the BP ads) has far more money and influence than the NRA, so bye bye regulations.
Most of Jimmy Carter’s advice regarding the energy crisis would be just as useful to limit climate change. Answers are laying around all over, but people keep wanting magic that will make it all painless. Carter used the unfortunate term, “moral equivalent of war.” He should have said, "We must bring the same determination and willingness to sacrifice to this struggle as we would to a war, only knowing that this struggle is not immoral.
The odds of thoughts and prayers working to ward off climate change are about as good as they were in solving the gun murder issue. The lack of consensus on these issues should tell us that the objective data is being completely disregarded/distorted and the lack of consensus only nurtures further political division where no logic can prevail.
I love deniers with all kinds of rationalizations, charts, graphs and cherry picked statistics. They will probably still be spouting the denials hip deep in water when it is 100F on a typical day anywhere.
Marco Rubio’s op-ed at USA Today is laughable. He promotes “adaptive solutions” that he claims will solve everything and the piece includes links that mainly point to other RW opinion pieces or they point out many problems caused by climate change (yeah, we’ve been telling YOU about those for a long time). One link points to a 277 page report from the EPA that does state the benefits of “adaptive solutions” but Rubio ignores that this is just a piece of the solution; the EPA paper states it is “second phase”. Continuing to burn fossil fuels while only looking at how to prevent flooding in Florida is flat out stupid. As usual from the RW, Rubio gins up fear of massive changes to the economy (he refers to it as “reverse engineer the U.S. economy to absolve our past climate sins”) when there has been advances made in switching to renewable energy. If the RW would stop doing things like blocking people from using terms like “climate change” and they ENCOURAGED renewables instead of just generating fear of change, progress could be made. But then “progress” is a dirty word to the RW.
No. That would require energy, thought, commitment, and effort. Most Americans are wasting all of these trying not to throw up at Trump’s latest tweet or antic.
The amount of energy from the sun that reaches Earth each day is enormous. All the energy stored in Earth’s reserves of coal, oil, and natural gas is equal to the energy in just 20 days of sunshine. While desert areas such as Arizona and Nevada get more sun than other parts of the United States, most areas receive enough sunshine to make solar energy practical.
I watched The American President the other day; it was released in 1995. The secondary plot line was Global Warming. Here we are 24 years later and the Fed is STILL sitting on its collective kiesters!
Here’s reasonably accurate, easy to understand chart of world temperatures since a long long time ago, including three possible futures. The absolutely best possible result which will hurt us all, some of us a lot, doesn’t even begin to return it to even today’s temperatures. More likely human behavior will result in a much much worse outcome for the survivors.

Something that makes people feel better, but does nothing to stop political donors’ pursuit of profit by any means necessary.

There are many options, but alas, none of them as profitable as the status quo (yet)

Don’t worry. I think the EPA is planning to add some water and frogs.
