A good spot under (inside?) the couch like that becomes known, and in no time the hipster kitties are moving in, gentrifying the living room.

What a great hiding spot! Be sure to tuck in your tail to avoid detection.

My couch is a hide a bed. Jasper loved having overnight company because it meant he could hide up inside the sofa! I had to warn guests to be sure to check that Jasper was safe before folding it back up! Once it was closed back up again, he’d stare at the area between the cushions and the arms of the sofa trying to figure out what happened to his magic access tunnel.

Jammies!!! And a Bunny Slipper!!!!!

Pucky is such a sweet little soul. I too had a special retreat spot as a kid – under the piano in the living room, right next to the heater vent. I can’t tell you how many hours I spent reading under there.

It’s got to be bacon on the plate, and Buzzy Mouse, or is that a Bunny Slipper? I go for Bunny Slipper since Puck has only one foot and that would work well for the story line.

All that scene needs is a cup of tea with a dab of milk and it would be purrrr-fect!

My girl cat, Squeaky Pie Blue, loves to hang out behind the couch!

Indeed, Puck, we all need a break from reality sometimes.

Puck : under the couch.

Elvis : On the couch.

Lupin : Over the ceiling fan.

And there is such a lot of modern hustle and bustle. Vacuum cleaners, microwaves going “ping”, TV sets, and the mail. (Which may, or may not, involve a visit by the mysterious mailman.)

Love the single slipper. And a book at bedtime.

Love that rabbit slipper.

It’s one of the best known secrets.

I love Pucky’s “secret” spot. It’s always nice to have a private retreat.

About a week after I got my first two cats after moving out of my parents’ house, one disappeared completely and sent me into a panic. Yep. In the sofa bed. In a space you wouldn’t think she could possibly fit into.

Gotta love how Pucky looks around before going under the couch—can’t be spotted going in, ya know.

That’s right, everycat has to have its own space. Even people.

Looks like he’s hollowed out a nice spot for himself in there!

OT: Freakout

Puck, to keep Sunspot from finding your place, don’t review it and tell no one about it.

I have a couch and a love seat in my living room that both have flaps on the back that Velcro shut, but easily come open. My cat Zoe used to like to sleep under the couch. Maxie might too sometimes, but I can’t say I have ever seen her. Maybe like Pucky she doesn’t want anyone to know about it.

“Under the Big Red Couch” would be a great title for the next book of cartoons.

My Furball disappeared on us once when we were in the process of moving. She hated moving. All of her toys and stuff packed up and she couldn’t find anything. [Everything in the house belonged to her, of course.] We couldn’t find her anywhere, and we were afraid she might have slipped outside and gotten lost. She was very old at the time and nearly blind and deaf. We hunted all through the house and outside and even down in the basement, although she had no way to open the basemen door. No sign of her anywhere. Finally at suppertime we heard her at her bowl, demanding her supper NOW. To this day we still have no idea where she was hiding. She has been gone now for more than 10 years and I still miss her very much.

Ahhh, the ‘Meditation Mecca’ … a place where one can ‘Paws and Reflect!!’ … …

OT: Espresso

Had to put down our sweet, tiny little Rambler yesterday. She was 19, which is five years older than any other cat I’ve ever had. My daughter was devastated.

The only one happy is Charlotte, the basement cat, who now gets full run of the house. Rambler was so old and small that we never dared trying to get them to cohabitate.

My two cats and I used to climb onto a shady corner of the roof (the Cat Club) to escape from the hustle-and-bustle (and my wife).

My dog Aspen died this past Saturday. I’m still in cardiac rehab. Still need your prayers. God Bless You All.

Puck’s tail: In one of the Frances books she’s discussing little sisters with a friend. He says, “And when you play hide and seek with them parts of them are always sticking out.”

For DC, Bandit, and Smokey, especially for DC, the retreat is out in the hall at the top of the stairs just outside my bedroom door. Actually for DC the entire hallway is his retreat, both at the top of the stairs and the bottom. The lights are off and no sunspots. Plus when it’s hot enough that I’m running the fan to get air moving in the room so it’s somewhat comfortable when I go to bed at night, there’s a breeze blowing right under the door. That becomes the coveted spot.
