In “Saving Private Ryan”, there is a scene where, after they knocked out a German machine gun and took a German prisoner, and there was an argument on whether or not to execute the prisoner, and even whether to continue the mission, to “save Pvt Ryan”. The captain (Tom Hanks) defuses the situation by letting on who he was in civilian life: an English teacher. After so much war, thus far, he wonders if his wife will recognize him /when he returns home. “Every time I kill another soldier, I feel further away from home!”Are we becoming the same, after each mass shooting, getting further away from what we were? Will we ever be able to get back? {Taking the money out of our political process, and abolishing the Republicans might be a good start!}
You can always tell an inept cartoonist when he has to label everything instead of providing a clear visual metaphor or parallel. This cartoonist is horse pucky.
