I once left a cassette tape on the dash in 100+ degree day in El Paso. When I came back, it had literally drooped into an unplayable, plastic blob.

Good thing it wasn’t bait.

Here in Wisconsin, I had a screen porch that I’d cover with a transparent plastic sheet in the winter. As a single-ply sheet, it wasn’t thick enuf to provide any insulation, nor was it intended to. It was mainly to keep snow off the porch, but during the day it would get up to room temperature out there, because there was always one side of the porch exposed to sunshine from dawn until dusk. And we’re talking room temperature vs. 0°F ambient outside air.

I remember getting back into my Dad’s car after many a day in Ortley Beach NJ, he had black vinyl seats, if you didn’t put a towel on the seat you could leave your flesh stuck to it.

Sounds like a good excuse to head back to the beach, but crack the windows this time.

The sandwiches for going home are now grilled cheese…

A nice way of showing the waving effect of heated air.

Oww! Just thinking about that experience (getting into a sun-heated car) makes me feel flame-broiled!

I don’t drive often, but on a hot sunny day I’d open the car, start it, start the air conditioning on high, and stand around outside with the door closed for five minutes to cool the car down. Often afterward it’s still cool air and hot seat.
