Why welfare and “entitlements” aren’t really about helping people, but generating a mob to use against anyone who opposes you. “You don’t want to continue to support our program of free bird seed? Get ready for a lot of angry tweets, you greedy (insulting word)!”
I always have to look around (and up in the tree) to see if there are any squirrels in sight before filling the feeders each morning — and then monitor their activity after that!

Hummingbirds buzz my daughter whenever she forgets to fill the feeder. After she fills it, they buzz her in a different, celebratory, manner.
