Good thing they’re not attempting to climb Mt. McNasty which is much more treacherous and higher, although I hear Mt. Baldy has a pretty good clear view from the top.

I have to admit that when I found out my (adult) son was taking his phone on two-week hikes into the wilderness, I was somewhat bemused and gave him a pretty decent dose of sh*t about it. But he keeps it turned off to save battery, and though he hasn’t used it… yet (keeping fingers crossed)… to deal with an emergency. I’ve now heard of so many hikers who have been rescued because someone managed to call for help (often by hiking to a high point, and often by texting which works better than voice when you have ½ a bar that I’m no longer opposed.
