The only time “Go back to where you came from” might have been appropriate would have been when the original inhabitants of the American continents encountered European invaders (they were invaders, NOT REFUGEES).
Instead, their first encounters were to greet them kindly, welcome them and, in the North Atlantic, help them survive through their first harsh winters.
Their kindnesses were repaid with conquest, enslavement and genocide.

I grew up near Washington, D. C. Just about everyone I knew was from somewhere else. And now that I am researching our family tree, it has become apparent my family has many international ancestors. Where do these bigots draw the line? One generation? Two? Ten?
Trump and the Republicons must think their ancestors were born next to Plymouth rock therefore entitled to be the only group to live in America. If you go back far enough were all descendants of immigrants.
