Talk about a classic lose-lose situation! Cook or starve to death from global warming, or mass panic and medieval wars all over again!

Danae may have the right answer today. (EMP is not the answer)

Can’t Lars just selectively EMP the politicians and businesses that are causing the problem?

Danae is ignoring the obvious, in the same way that Buttercup passes on any mention of climate change. Dems are no better, having recently nixed any discussion of the subject in debates. As per the old saying, ignoring the elephant in the room, but after so long, there’s a lot more to stuff to ignore.

I would only hope we have the plague, smallpox, and other nasties sufficiently under control now so that they could not make a come back in the new middle ages.

No. The internet is good. It’s like a whole library of knowledge and info in your pocket. Just find a way to eliminate social media and tweeting so that people can get back to living their lives.

The Middle Ages were actually very active times science-wise… the only culture ever to breed empirical science, the Christian Europe was establishing universities and revising Aristotle’s foolish errors in physics by the 12th century, not to mention their accomplishments in engineering over Greece and Rome.

It is sad when cartoonists and social commentators continue equating the Middle Ages with darkness, ignorance and unscientificality despite the general consensus of historians. I highly recommend reading agnostic Rodney Stark’s ”For the Glory of God.”

Instead of EMP, Lars should modify the satellites and make them space ships, load up half the people on Earth and transport them to a new exo planet. This would solve more than just global warming.

Who ever said the Middle ages were the ‘good’ old ages? Viking raids, gonorrhea, syphilis, the Golden Horde invading Austria … oh, yes, they were were definitely the “Good Old Days” all right.

Just a thought for all the Evangelicals out there…Remember, the last time that Religions Ruled the Major Governments of the World, they called it “The Dark Ages”!

And it made “The Middle Ages” look like Paradise…

In this context, a pulse is “a single vibration or short burst of sound, electric current, light, or other wave,” so “a constant E.M.P.” doesn’t really make sense; what you’re talking about is a continuous series of E.M.P.’s.

Those pulses would have to be impossibly powerful. We used electromagnetic pulses in airborne surveys to detect conductive minerals buried hundreds of meters below ground; and there was no disruption of the aircraft systems or anything we flew over.

Speaking of Buttercup – a constant, depressing thread these years – anyone happen to notice the resemblance between him and Boris Johnson? From all appearances, they also share some of the same traits.

One nuclear blast over the USA could put out the electrical system through EMP.

It could take at least 2 years to rebuild the electrical system.

It’s “Dark Ages”. They happened after the Western Roman Empire collapsed, possibly due to over-entertainment… The Middle Ages came later, were fairly OK, leading up to the Renaissance. The Middle Ages did have lots of wars though. But the Dark Ages had lots of Danaes.:-)

Space travel requires an unimaginably large power source. If he gave that to us we would be fine. Sorta. Except for all the other problems. So, going pre-industrial revolution may be the only way.

For some reason, a scene from Disney’s “WALL-E” comes to mind; the one where the Corporate Executive announces that everyone’s leaving, and don’t bother to come back. I found the movie to be a moving and poignant cautionary tale. The hopeful upbeat ending seemed rather forced to me, but it was a Disney film after all. Happy Endings are de rigueur.

Howsabout anti-intellectual? A blurb in one of the newspapers I read—CSM, I think: At least 75% of all American read one book last year. Geezus. . .and I’ll bet that one had BIG pictures. When our book club read “A Gentleman in Moscow,” most readers thought it was true, and that the Bolshevik Revolution was a quiet peaceful “replacement” of the royalty. Some were even planning to visit the hotel where the Count was supposedly imprisoned. . .

There was a fascinating show on the Discovery Channel called LIFE AFTER PEOPLE which explored what would happen to the planet if humans vanished. Much would be the same results as if technology stopped working. One result is that all the nuclear power plants would fail and spew radiation everywhere. So, not a great idea, Lars.

A much quicker solution would be a massive solar flare storm aka an EMP which would wipe out all electronics and computers, excepting of course those hardened against EMP. Would be an excellent time for an unhinged ruler of a country armed with nukes(provided they were hardened against EMP) to start WWIII because Wars are easy to win. If we got hit with a Solar Storm, all pre computer cars and trucks would be in great demand, as would coal fired steam locomotives

I love the seed of motivation that you are planting to wake us up to world events with Humor – thank you Non Sequitur! In a senate hearing on 5G, Senator Blumenthal asked Telecom industry leaders, "How much money was budgeted for research into the potential health & environmental effects of 5G (millimeter length waves) being beamed from every other utility pole (business AND residential) in the U.S., and from space satellites down onto the people & agriculture of the planet. They all looked at each other silently, checked among themselves and then answered, ‘None to our knowledge Senator.’So these corporations are ready to flood untested electromagnetic frequencies over us all, and we have no idea how it will effect babies, bees, our eyes, food source production, etc. Let’s all get the good laugh at our human foibles but then ask ourselves, is this a risk I want for myself/my children? Take Back Your Power…Call Your Government Representatives and ask them why they haven’t asked about this tremendously cataclysmic gap, NOW!
