Reminds me of a similar situation in a math problem when the dude returned decades later and the key landmarks were gone. He, also being a graduate mathematician, simply used imaginary numbers (square root of negative number) to find the treasure. This math was added long ago to air control radar computers to instantly locate aircraft vectors. Just sayin.
