Pig, don’t worry. Dreams are a joke of the unconscious mind.

I’ve never understood why people seem so happy at the prospect of “all my dreams coming true!”

Does that include the one where you’re naked and back in high school and there’s a big test you forgot to study for?

Last night, I dreamed that I had pruned a tree growing by the sidewalk to look like a bulbous headed monster with branches clawing down to grab at people. It was like something from Calvin and Hobbes. I was wondering where the dream was going to go with it, but the cat started yelling for breakfast.

While successful, rich, and married are dreams, the reality is failed, broke, and divorced.

Hang in there, Pig. It’s just Monday.

“Talkin’ to myself and feelin’ old / Sometimes I’d like to quit / Nothin’ ever seems to fit / Hangin’ around / Nothin’ to do but frown / Rainy days and Mondays always get me down. . . .” Rainy Days and Mondays; as performed by the Carpenters, music and lyrics by Roger Nichols and Paul Williams (1971).

I’ve found it best to reevaluate my dreams from time to time, so as to both have something worth striving for and not have something dishearteningly impossible.

Pig is successful. He’s a well-paid (right, Cartoon-Boy?) star in a very popular comic strip. We don’t know much about his private life outside of the strip, but I bet he’s doing better than just Pigita (hey, while you’re at it, Cartoon-Boy un-die Pig’s in-strip true love, Sweet Fanny!).

In short I think that’s Pig’s acting today is really first-rate, convincing and moving!

Sure-fire way to remember your dreams: Write them down. Keep a journal or a blog. Do it as many days as you can. In the beginning, don’t worry about detail, just jot down some key images and phrases. But be consistent. Eventually you’ll be remembering at least something every night. Keeping a dream journal is also a key component of lucid dreaming, an exhilarating experience. If worst comes to worst, you can always consume some Calea zacatechichi (look it up).Extra pro tip: Sleeping on one’s back promotes nightmares. Don’t do it if you can avoid it.
