I used to live in a place with a heat pump. In the winter it warms ever-so-slightly, and if it’s really cold out, it must pump for a long time to raise the room temperature at all. But that means blowing air for a long time, and then the wind-chill factor on your skin outweighs the warming. I used to be embarrassed by guests asking me why I had air-conditioning on in the winter. (Not much related to the cartoon, but my hatred of heat-pumps overcame me.)
I had a portable A/C unit and the window was 4’ away. It was zero sum gain, the heat put out by the hose was negated the cooling put out by the unit. If you can’t get it next to a window, it is useless.

Your air conditioner (and any other refrigeration unit) was always a heat pump.

My AC unit quit on my last week when it was 94F outside, so I can identify with this comic.
