One thing all children must realize-their parents have diplomatic immunity, and kids with super suits can’t take the law, as they see it, into their own hands.

Reminds me of the song from “Oliver”.

“I think I better think it out again.”

    Please add appropriate music.

Usually it’s Hobbes who tries to talk him OUT of doing something stupid.

O boy hes getting off way too easy he will be laughing about this by to marrow . Hobbes is losing his good moral path here. But after its all said what a politician he could grow up to be.

Margueritem: I like your daffodil. Spring is (almost) here. Will the snow soon be gone (in the Midwest and here at C & H)?

I think Calvin realizes that his stunt was dangerous and COULD have hurt Suzie badly…that’s what he means in the last panel, that a hero like stupendous man would never intentionally hurt someone.

The best one is when he brings Stupendous Man to his school (oops we have to pretend that these are not repeats and future strips don’t yet exist, don’t we?).

margueritem: Yes, I put Under Heaven on hold & got it from the library, and then something came up and I didn’t have time to read it. So I have it on hold again.

It’s great to see Calvin recognize that discretion is the better part of valor.

Hobbes, one of the all time favorite funny ones.

If one of our boys had pulled a stunt like that, his little bottom would be as “red as a pickled beet”. They are middle aged now and laugh and tease their mom about that threat. Most of the time, just the threat kept them obedient. They turned out to be nice and loving adults with wonderful families and appreciative of their raising now that they have kids who are just like they were.

That’s it?!?!? That’s all the punishment Calvin’s going to get for dropping a snowball the size of a bowling ball on a little girl’s head that could have seriously injured her … just the threat of having his costume taken away from him if he did it again?!?!?

If that had been me that had done something like that when I was Calvin’s age, my husband would now be married to someone else and they would be Gretchen’s mom because my life would have been seriously over right then and there because my dad would have absolutely killed me for having done such a thing … and I would have deserved it too!!!!!

As the child of an active alcoholic parent, my sister and I saw the face of our mother resembling the one in panel three all too often. We experienced far worse than being denied some clothing. With his capacity for fantasy, Calvin, no doubt, would come up with another costume/character in a flash….

This is also a reminder that kids (we’ll stick with kids for the moment), can get carried away and forget - or more likely not even consider what consequences their actions may bring. I’ll guarantee that a kid Calvin’s supposed age doesn’t really think about permanent damage.

Apostle - The Bible says to not put any wicked thing before our eyes… if chopping each other up isn’t wicked, I don’t know what is.

Of course, kids know the difference between reality and absurdity, and generally have no problem interpreting cartoons as silliness. But then again we have to look at this increasingly insanely violent world and wonder just how much damage that stuff may really be doing that we refuse to acknowledge.
