Why this non-story when there’s so much going on in the world? Maybe GT can’t figure out what line to take on Egypt etc so he’s stalling?

“Yo! Waitress!”??? If I was said waitress, I’d pour some coffee down his lap….but it would be a tragic waste of perfectly good coffee.

Well, Jeff & Zipper used to spend their days talking while playing video games. They’re still using their thumbs & staring at screens. They’ve simply stopped talking.

If only they could attain that level of absorption over something that mattered: learning, creating, developing a useful or beautiful skill.

I see Zip waking up some day and smelling all the c r a p he’s been accumulating. I see him transforming himself into someone more than worthwhile. (maybe) Those innocent eyes say that a better Zip is in there somewhere.

I see Jeff continuing to be his same old insufferable stupid self, never getting beyond the creepy jerk phase. (most likely) I still can’t understand how Joanie gave birth to two very creepy selfish children. (still)

I hope I’m right about Zip and wrong about Jeff.

The more I think about it the more I think Jeff is GT’s most disgusting character.

“I see Zip waking up some day and … transforming himself into more than worthwhile.” Some might say that about Sarah Palin. She and Zipper have a lot in common: both are chronic dropouts from college, both struggle to get their minds (?) around a thought, both mangle words, and both suffer from anile flatulence.

    @palin drome: “anile”?

anile, adj. 1 - Of or like an old woman. 2 - Senile. [Latin anīlis, from anus, old woman.] (American Heritage Dictionary)

Wow. Too much education for me….

@ M. Kitt from yesterday, you bring out an interesting point that most progressives today would rather live in the past while conservatives are much more interested in the present and the future. I cannot disagree with you. I do sympathize with you not having anyone relevant to hate, since bashing Bush (justifiably or not) merely identifies one as lame to anyone outside the clique and bashing Palin simply gives her more publicity and credibilty. The left has forgotten the lesson of 2004.

Commentator has the intellectual integrity to question the current administration’s inability to stick to its ideological path, just as did conservatives who criticized Bush for running too far left . If one stands for something, you push your leaders to enable it with you. If you don’t, you merely engage in idological masterbation and blame the other guy, even if the other guy is long gone. It goes nowhere, but it feels good. Do you stand for anything?

This cartoon is not as immediate as an editorial cartoon….even though Doonsbury often ends up on the editorial page. I bet in about 3 weeks we’ll start seeing some stuff.

I can see in the future human beings will no longer be growing taller but will start showing a definite curving of the spine and inward rotation of the shoulders. That, along with a narrowing and arching of the fingers. Along with all that evolutionary progress will come a narrowing of the peripheral to approximately six degrees.

    Thus the perfect tweeter!

My sadness emanates from the reality that since I am very old and have little time left on this mortal coil, just when humans will get to be very easy to steal from, distract, and otherwise torment, I won’t be here to take part in the fun. Had hoped my k-bar and I could have some remaining fun in the end times.

Guess my memories of enhancing my material wealth at the expense of the airdales at An Hoa will have to do. Tweeters would have been fun though.

@junco49: I don’t think Jeff is the most disgusting one. But I can’t remember the name of the one who was. He was based on Hunter S. Thompson, and there was always a Red Chinese girl named Honey chasing after him. He had a son whom he was raising to be much like himself. Slimy - crooked - no, I don’t think Jeff is even in the running. He’s just too dumb.

    Now what was his name?

Wow, Nemy Idological masterbation? You mean like ranting on and on on politics even when the strip is purely sociological in nature? You know, so hopelessly fixated that you are either a bought voice or a brainwashed drone of one side or the other? You mean like that?

Idological? You are either determined top coin a new word based the idea of idol worship or you are behaving like and idioillogical speller.

I think Duke is pretty disgusting too. He is still around spreading his own brand of misery.

While Duke was originally patterned after Thomson he became his own despicable self in ways Thomson never did. Thomson had a fairly decent (from what I’ve heard) set of values nutty though he was. On the other hand, Duke and any decent values whatsoever exist in totally different universes.

Today, panel two (and in quite another way panel three) seems to sum up Jeff’s total disregard for anyone other than himself. He doesn’t even have the decency to bother looking at the wait person. At least Zip makes eye contact. I think what scares me is that there are way too many nitwits like Jeff.

Two more, Uncle Stoopid Head and Mrs. Deluca.

It’s time for Trudeau to come up with some undocumented immigrants as new characters. He could have Jose y Maria Ortega with their anchor baby, Jesus. Duke could reemerge as a coyote/gun runner, and BD could get a job at the sheriff’s dept, and a new hat. There’s a lot of room for plot and character development, but the forum would probably flip out.

    … and don’t forget Sid.

freeholder1 has pinpointed the root cause of Palinosis. It stems from the allergic reaction that SP and the Tea Partiers have to English, both spoken and written. They’re suspicious of customary English because that’s the idiom of intellectuals like Obama.

Words like “refute” and “repudiate” are too precise and prevent them from jumbling together several indistinct notions. So they coin new words: “refudiate,” or “idological” (? idol worship? “idioillogical”?), or “masterbation” (? subservience to masters or leaders?).

Palinosis is an allergy to language that is symptomatic of persons who have difficulty thinking politically. George Orwell anatomized Palinosis in his classic essay sixty-five years ago:

SOB’s correct spelling proves that “masterbation” was a genuine example of Palinosis springing from political confusion.
