I’m still waiting for Trudeau to do a piece about Obama killing people with unmanned drones. Or keeping Guantanamo open. Or the patriot act, or escalating the war… He probably has a couple more days of twitting strips to do, I’m sure he’ll get to it.

@Commentator It’ would all be over if the Republican’ts would quit saying “No!” to him. And if they would have said “No.” to Bush occasionally.

Ah, the social comment still gives rise to the pol comment. Hard to avoid here in GT land. Obviously no one else will listen to Commentators TWIT-ering.

You must be our token liberal/progressive commenter, Commentator. I feel your pain. Surely you realize that most people who bother to post here execrate Trudeau as a boot-licking Obama apologist? (Personally, I’m a disgruntled centrist, perpetually annoyed with one-sided rants that only have an incidental connection with reality. Obama is a complex, interesting, flawed man, but not the fool or demon either end of the spectrum makes him out to be.)

    For what it’s worth…

    (1) People get killed in war, sometimes civilian by-standers. War *is* hell. Actually, the friendly fire body count in this war from drones is much lower than in previous ones…a sign of the progress of civilization, I suppose. :|

    (2) Obama shouldn’t have made promises that are physically impossible to keep, but that’s politics as usual. Gitmo is still in business because no one has the faintest idea what to do with the inmates, and no one wants to let them go. Stalemate — and not particularly anyone’s fault.

    (3) The Patriot Act needs to be seriously amended or repealed; it was bad law, rushed into force in the heat of the moment. Either Obama thinks it isn’t all that bad, or else he’s been frugal with his political capital for use on other issues he thinks are more pressing — like health care.

    (4) Obama has been winding down our twin wars and providing exit strategies, which is more than Bush ever did.

NebulousRikulau, it’s nonsensical to blame Bush and the Republicans for using predator drones, keepting Club Gitmo open, the continued use of the Patriot Act, and the escalation of the war. Commentator picked issues that very specifically Obama owns himself, though he campaigned specifically against 2 of them and specifically for one of them. Well done on the obligatory “Blame Bush” smear, though.

@ Scaaty, as to your points:

    1) Sad but true, and the use of predators limits US casualties. Didn’t the left use US casualities as the primary reason against the wars? To his credit, Obama has risen to the occasion.

    2) 100% true, but it’s easy to rail against something when you don’t have personal responsibilty for the outcomes. Now Obama does. Again to his credit, he has put US security over party ideology and acted responsibly.

    3) Gitmo and the Patriot Act were used as examples of hateful “Neocon” policies. Obama has validated those policies as being nessisary to help keep the US safe, and (at least in those areas) has proved Bush right.

    4) It was impossible and inadvisable for Bush to set a timetable, and winding down or not, we’ll still be there 2 years from now when President Palin will inherit the wars.

To truly understand the beauty of texting, you have to work for one of the spook agencies. Despite decades of work and billions of dollars, computerized speech recognition is still highly error-prone; it you want to monitor people’s phone conversations you still need an agent to listen to the wiretap. But text messages (and IM’s, emails, Twits, etc.) are already in machine-readable form, ready for the “oh-no-we-don’t-do-that-wink-wink-nudge-nudge-say-no-more” Carnivore program to inspect for unapproved speech.

Big Brother thanks you. With your help, we can make 1984 efficient and cost-effective!

Again, why all the political crap? Can’t I escape it anywhere. Having said that—I will always appreciate Garry Trudeau for being the only publis commentator who seemed to fully understand the Vietnam Veterans ,what thry went though and are still going through. Keep it up, Garry, unfortunately there are even more Veterans today who still need you. I do not speak without personal knowledge. I was an Army nurse in Vietnam and yes, I have PTSD.

It wasn’t until I really studied the Constitution that I realized just about, OK everything I did was unconstitutional. Of course, almost every law Congress has passed in the last 50 years is unconstitutional.

Wow, jr, you actually paid attention in history class. You might want to jostle the neo-cons awake for the next lesson, They don;t seem to ever have paid attention.

M Kitt: I shared similar observations a couple months back. You’ve touched on his monozukuri. Thanks for trying. No one is listening. We like the sound of our own “voices” too much. ;-)

    freeholder,

    1) There are no more neo-cons. The independents (who defined neo-con-ism) jumped ship and voted for Obama. The word is meaningless in current context.

    2) No kidding. If god forbid you were to flip to any right-sided media outlet, you’ll see that they can’t stop talking about the dreaded likelyhood that Muslims will get into power. Why would you clue otherwise?

    3) GT is a great story teller. That’s mostly all he does. You’re hardly the only one who has said so.

Look at the sponsors of the Project for a New American Century, the neocon manifesto and see how many Obama supporters there are. Wm Kristol? Robert Kagan? Randy Scheunemann? Michael Goldfarb? Cheney maybe, but that’s because he was honked at Bush for throwing Scooter under the bus.

Where does Nemesys pull his information from? He reminds me of someone who toots, and then acts like someone else did it. No you own it.

Lou, vague, puffy, meaningless statements are starting to become your trademark. Pity, since you used to make sense, in a depraved sort of way.

Irving Kristol described a neoconservatives as a “liberal mugged by reality”, one who became more conservative after seeing the results of liberal policies. Reagan voters who jumped ship on Jimmy Carter are the classic example. You can lump those guys on the website in there if you want, but they were never liberal, are not neo-anything, and don’t subscribe to much that is politically relevant today. They’re the old guard.

That’s very interesting about Irving, but we’re talking about William, neocon to the core, and to that add David Addington and Richard Pearl. Where’re all these neocon Obama voters at PNAC? Francis Fukuyama was about the only liberal there and he bailed on the neocons a couple years before ‘08.

Nemesys is trying to change history more than Stalin’s photographer. Cossack.
