It’s official. Ramirez is as mentally and morally defunct as Trump.

To equate a fictional event which ultimately represents a free choice with enslavement? Beyond stupid.

So being non-white is the equivalent of committing a sin?

Oh that’s right! The Republican party actually thinks that way!

    So “Original Sin” = “Slavery?”

    Sit and spin, Ramirez.

It’s ridiculous from the get go….to demand money for happenings hundreds of years ago…. it’s like a get rich quick scheme….why would WE be responsible for the sins of our forefathers?

If you believe the ridiculous garden of eden story, they did something that God forbade them to do. That’s about as far from slavery as you can get.

Imagine being forced into slavery, losing your possessions, your heritage, your basic freedoms then much later being freed in a land where you are not welcomed by many. If after several generations in a nation that promises equal opportunity, you are still not accepted as fully equal, something should be done by the offending nation that is just and fair to compensate for your loss.

I don’t even know what this means. You’re saying the SLAVES are the sinners, and not the enslavers?

I would like to say that Eve was unjustly targeted for punishment in this incident. For her, and every single member of her gender, to be punished and reviled throughout eternity is excessive. If the God of Genesis were worthy of worship there would be forgiveness, understanding, and a gentle loving tolerance of mistakes.

Why do we insist on making God as evil, unforgiving, demanding and intolerant as a drunken, spouse abusing, redneck in a wife-beater t-shirt?

I will not worship a deity as horrible and sinful as myself. I can forgive and love my children. God should be able to do likewise.

This is the start, right here. Women should not be punished, abused, disrespected, hated, treated as property, just because they are women. I don’t care if it was God himself who decreed that it be so.

What is included in reparations? Are you guys thinking only in $$ signs or are you thinking in terms of repairing the gross inequities of society that still exist today? Greed is NOT good, opportunity is NOT equal and fairness will make us a stronger, not weaker nation.

As to why it should be Federal rather than state by state. Slavery was recognized in the US Constitution as a legal right of some over others. Then, when that was supposedly fixed, the Federal government after a few years stopped enforcing the rights of blacks (anywhere, not just the South). That was discrimination with regard to Constitutional rights, outright or not, and it continued for a century. So there is a heavy Federal responsibility.

Should reparations be given to individuals? I think not. I would rather see money spent in upgrading social institutions in predominately black areas. That is, improvements to educational, medical, and protection services. Those were neglected by the American public and government. Maker reparations that will influence the future.

Ramirez! You are playing the role of the serpent. You are trying to drive a wedge between between the descendants of slaves and white people who would do better than their ancestors.
