From the first Republican primary debate (you remember, back when we had a democracy?), it was obvious to all intelligent people that Li’l Donnie Trump didn’t know a damn thing about any of the arts, or any of the sciences, or economics, or the budget, or the military, or history, or current events. Remember, there were nearly 20 candidates in the early Republican primaries. A few of whom are intelligent, and most of whom are sane. The problem was, the eventual candidate was (and is) neither, and the Democrats took for granted states that shouldn’t ought to be taken for granted. (Of course, there was also that Russian deal………….)
Dick Cheney and George W. also quashed legitimate, scientific analyses of fossil fuel emissions effects in the atmosphere. Ronald Reagan not only had the solar panels on the White House removed during his first week in office, but he also put a political female hack in charge of the EPA, with instructions to ruin it from within. It is so plainly obvious that the Repubs simply are carrying out the instructions of Exxon-Mobil, BP, Sonoco et al. to ensure their maximized profits at the great expense on the next generation (and other life on this planet). Trump is simply another puppet, a master of distraction, to serve the Wealthy Elite. And he has a massive herd of sheep baaing away at every rally!
It seems that tiny is working against Truth, Justice and the American Way. We have to collectively be Supermen and Superwomen and stop him and his cronies from further destruction of our country and the world. Get out and vote them out. Keep the republikkklans out of office forever. Even down to dogcatcher and school board member.
What astonishes me, and frightens me, is that the GOP has been bombing these targets for decades now – back to Reagan, at least – but at least they pretended otherwise and could occasionally vote otherwise, and would respond to scientific fact appropriately (hard to believe that Eisenhower strongly pushed STEM education and Nixon promoted the Clean Air Act, isn’t it?). Now – they just don’t seem to care.
Watching the old-school GOP people like George Will abandoning the party is simply amusing: this is what they ALWAYS stood for, but #45 is apparently just too crass and crude in his approach to it to suit them. And the members of Congress who “bravely” announce their differences with the party and then leave office are no more brave than people who do the same on Facebook. They are cowards who do nothing for their precious principles.
The way to change the GOP is to have better candidates. Now they are the party of Trump: self-absorbed, selfish, money-grubbers with contempt for democratic processes and ignorance of the Constitution.

Wait…. I thought truth, climate science, the Constitution, and voting rights (among other things) were the targets.
