Sadly accurate. BTW, the plastic straws are dangerous, becoming weapons, so it’s not irrational to going back to using the paper ones that worked fine for me as a kid.
The Como Park Zoo & Conservatory in St Paul, MN has a bunch of large sculptures/art installations made from nothing but trash fished out of the ocean. The pieces are quite interesting, but it’s disgusting to think of all that trash getting dumped into the ocean for sea life to ingest, which then get fished up for us to eat. Just recycling isn’t going to solve this issue. We need to wean ourselves off of this disposable culture.
According to one report if the increase of plastic occurs in the oceans at the same rate as in the last 50 years, by 2050 the amount of plastic will outweigh the fish.
Curious how strict some property owners associations are about maintaining a neat clean environment and how lax some other people want the government to be. The problem arises when people do not compromise and have common goals it seems. How much longer can the planet survive if we continue to be our own worst enemy … ruining our environment, even our food, water, and air?
And that is only what you can see. It’s the micro trash that you cannot see that will cause problems down the road. Remember that “denial” is not a River In Egypt.
Oh, just another “Fake Environmental Crisis” dreamed up by those pesky tree-hugging liberals. Oceans clean themselves up, just like the climate – it’s all cyclical. Nothing to see here. Move along. /s
This obviously is a family rated aquarium.. the adult (real) version would be showing a lot of condoms and female.. applicators. There is a lot of talk lately about banning single use plastic items.. have fun with that ladies.
went to a summer festival last year. when we left at closing, very difficult to walk because everyone stopped using receptacles for trash. People can really be slobs!
I read yesterday that the average American ingests enough plastic every year to make a credit card. Its not just the oceans that have too much plastic within.
Since stores started charging for plastic bags in my area, I have noticed a big reduction in the number blowing down the street, stuck in trees or laying in the gutter.
Too many take-out places automatically include plastic forks, etc. They should ask or wait for the customer to request them; when I get take-out food I’m usually taking it home.

According to The Economist, 90% of the plastic in the ocean comes from five rivers from China, India and Nigeria.

I’ve seen a factoid that human blood is quite similar to sea water in its composition. We’re mainlining poison on a global scale.

Mr. McGuire (played by Walter Brooke): I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman): Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Plastics!

I’ve tried to buy good reusable straws several times.
They are difficult to find unless you want the annoying “Twisty” ones.

A study informs us that half of that display should be fishing nets.
