Back in the early 80s, I worked for a company that planted trees for paper and lumber companies to replant their clear cuts. For all the open space we worked in, there was never any barren earth. The undergrowth and the windrows of brush that they leave were teeming with wildlife not usually seen in the dense forest.

Clear cutting is bad since it leaves nothing. Rains come and mud slides. They do it in the south for pulp wood. It leaves land bare.
