Just like a lot of other seminal moments in history, there’s a lot of mythology surrounding that day at the Stonewall Inn. The NY Times recently did a YouTube video featuring some people who were actually there.
The difference is much less than uptight folks imagine it to be. Particularly at that age. My gay friend Calvin told me that his life was divided into these parts:
Student
Gay student
Gay teacher (who retired to a farm)
Gay farmer
Farmer who’s gay
Farmer
I have to admit my life has followed a very similar curve, though over on this side of the sexuality business.
