They ignored it when they had a GOP majority in both houses for 8 years, 2 of which they had a GOPish President. It wasn’t until the tide turned against them and they knew that they would get a stiff fight that it really became a serious issue. In American politics the only thing that is important to accomplish is domination of the elections. Besides, look at all the “Fresh out of law school” new ultra conservative judges for life we’ve gained. Immigration, like abortion, is a “Do not solve” election rallying cry.
Replace the do nothing Congress with illegal immigrants. Isn’t said the illegals do the jobs Americans do not want to do. It seems the Congressmen do not want to do their job.

How about making hiring illegals a felony. Oh, right Republicans turn a blind eye to business illegalities. They’re just trying to maximize profit. Also, they tend to be the ones doing the hiring. No outrage toward the demand side of the equation.
This is a diversionary tactic by republicans. Focus public attention on the disadvantaged while manipulating and absconding with the fortunes of the workers.
Many right-wingers have tried to blame “the left” (as if it is an homogeneous group) for the increase in immigration, claiming that “they” are encouraging the people in these countries to come to the southern border. These right-wingers also claim that these immigrants are being coached by “the left” on what to say. What would be the purpose of this? Considering that Trump is using this immigration wave to declare a national emergency, and that the RW came up with this scenario so quickly, I suspect that there is a RW conspiracy to put a focus on immigration. This is to distract from the massive deficit, environmental destruction and cuts to Social Security, Medicare, education, etc.
Most of the illegal immigrants came to the U.S. legally and overstayed their visa. Trump has increased the number of H2B visas he gets, and there have been several reports about his golf courses obtaining false documents for illegal immigrants.
The Democrats have been trying to get the GOP aboard an immigration bill since way back in the early Obama years. But no. And of course it’s all their fault for that. At least Ramirez, perhaps remembering how well he did yesterday, is blaming all of them instead of just the Dems.
