What is considered “Canadian-style” hot dog anyway?

Oh come on Elly! You had to know the last thing he wants is a hot dog.

Michael looks grossed out because Elly’s sad little burnt-black wiener looks pitiful next to the fine franks he has been selling (see panel 1).

Reminds me of the summer job had between junior and senior years of high school. Worked at KFC cooking, when they only had original recipe. Quit when school started up in the fall. Worked from after school until closing time, then had to scrub the pots, pans, and kitchen clean. It took until several months later for me to forget the smell of chicken cooking.

At least Elly could’ve given him a burger.

A chili dog with coleslaw is perfect for me! Or, one with mustard and sauerkraut. Texas Hots are hard to beat in my part of the country. I had to give up hot dogs. One of my very favorite foods. Too much sodium in them. If anyone knows of a lower sodium brand hot dog, post it.

In college, I dated a guy who was a manager at a pizza place. When we went out, he avoided any place that even smelled like tomato sauce.

Lynn’s Comments: Here, Michael is served the one thing he really doesn’t want to eat.

My Aunt Margaret worked at Moir’s Chocolates during the 1950s. Every year, she’d send us a box of chocolates for Christmas. I thought she had the best job in the world. One year, when I was about 10, she came with her family from Ontario to Vancouver to visit us and I told her I would love to work in a chocolate factory. She laughed! She told me she was sick of chocolate! Apparently, the day she was sent to the packaging floor of the factory, she was told that all the employees were invited to eat as much chocolate as they wanted. She dug in! After two days, she had no desire to eat, touch or smell chocolate, and that everyone else felt the same. The Moir’s Company policy paid off. Sadly, Margie’s dislike of chocolate lasted the rest of her life!

Back in the dark ages, when I worked at a pizza place, we too couldn’t stand pizza. We traded food with the fried chicken place across the street. Fried chicken made them gag.

I understand the feeling. I had a job in a dairy for a while. To this day I avoid butter.

Always a side-effect of working with food. My sister worket at a hamburger joint for many years & to this day, she’s 88, does not eat hamburgers.

Personally, I agree with Lou Costello — I hate yellow mustard. (Dijon, Honey, they’re OK.)

You don’t feed what your family works at every day. And that is the joke. He has had his fill of it now. Some places encourage their new workers to pig out till they swear off eating it so that they can do the work unaffected.

My cousin is smart because he works at places he doesn’t like so that the food doesn’t get ruined for him.

During HS I worked at Wendy’s when they opened the first store in town. I couldn’t get enough of ’em. Triple burger loaded. Chilli. Fries. And a Frosty. And back then employee meals were free.

I wonder what happened in that first panel. That guy looks like Michael put something bad on it.

I still like boiled hot dogs, like I ate them as a kid. Anyone remember having a hot dog cooker that electrocuted them?
