It is a long weekend that has become traditional for new car purchasing – get out the and kick some tires to show that you understand the significance of Memorial Day. If you don’t want or need a new care, then go to a Sumo Wrestling Match like our President.

Like my United States Flag, I carry my own private Memorial inside. I also avoid politicians making speeches, since most of them have no understanding of what they are saying.

Not all the soldiers have died. I have a nephew who fought in Afghanistan. His injuries are on the inside and will never be the same.

I’m not sure how holidays are celebrated in other nations. In the U.S., if you can’t spend lots of money during it and eat mass quantities of food and alcoholic beverages, you haven’t celebrated properly. Never mind the original intent of the holiday. Young and old alike act the same.

They used to have military ceremonies in the graveyards where they played taps and there would be a line of soldiers shoot a 21 gun salute on Memorial Day. Now it’s mattress sales. How many cities have a parade anymore?

The top half of this drawing is beautiful. It makes me weep. The bottom half makes me ashamed. By the way, PBS is having an annual Memorial Day Concert. It usually is lovely.

It.. is a long weekend for most. A few diminishing ceremonies attended by those that have lost family or friends. A vain attempt by various organizations to keep the memory / sacrifice alive.. And then, Tuesday.. promptly forgotten.

I suspect The Framers would’ve placed this (grudgingly) under the broader value rubric of “pursuit of happiness.” It’s hard to imagine how it’s worth sending millions to their deaths, however.

Here is a very solemn video from France, showing two of their recent (May 2019) military dead being honored. I note that Macron is there. But I can’t see Trump sticking around for something like this.

Even had you put that guy in a MAGA hat at least he’d be ‘celebrating’ here, and not outside the U.S. and in the country of a former enemy who attacked and killed so many of those who we remember today. It’s hard to fathom that tRump is embarrassed by cheating to not serve. Is tRump ironic, or moronic.

All holidays, except Christmas, New Year’s, and Independence day have been legislated into shopping holidays.

Brought to you from corporate headquarters, just like ‘holiday’ parties in December.

Some folks, yes; not all of us Marty – some of us do honor the sacrifice ♥ Thank you for another well-drawn, well-thought out ’toon.
