Hearing aides are a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing sometimes to hear what’s being said. It’s a curse sometimes to hear what’s being said.

Selective sight is essential to a marriage’s survival if one of the couple is tidy and the other is…not…

We don’t lose our hearing, we just get better at filtering out non-essential noise.

it’s called spousal deafness and I’ve suffered from it for years

My wife, who’s spent a decade or more berating me for not getting hearing aids, is now getting deaf. She owns hearing aids, but won’t wear them (much), preferring to cup her hand over an ear to hear the TV and to play “Earl” in conversations w/ me. It’s kind of funny how much the roles are reversing.

Oddly this makes total sense to me. Since my mom has to wear glasses and my dad has to use hearing aids

I agree with the second part.

Earl has selective hearing, and Opal wasn’t selected.

More like a hypothesis, Earl. And it affects both sexes.
