This is the post from late yesterday, with an update in the reply section so you can skip ahead if already seen. My heart is so full right now. I’m full of pain and anxiety for my Nushi, and love and hope for her as well. I think our hearts expand with every soul we love to give us room for all that comes with it. I also know that having you all out their supporting us makes it easier. I have true moments of peaceful calm and heart thumping love with my little girl. I KNOW part of the strength that allows that is your help – your purrs, boops, prayers, warm thoughts and positive juju.
Nushi got her 1st shot yesterday. My friend gave it while I held her and we were both shaking like crazy before and after, but did well during. Nushi took it well. Better than we did though we tried not to show it while we were with her. Dozed in the sun for 3 hrs and ate just a bit more than she had earlier. Today….it’s so hard to know though I’m going to try and video log and will start weighing her food before and after so I have more objective evidence…I think her ability to walk is at least the same, if not ever so slightly better. She actually tried to reinforce my ankle this morning. She fell over, but she hadn’t even been trying for the last 4 days. Understand that even if it’s the same, that’s huge. Her deterioration day to day had been as significant as it was heart-breaking. She definitely ate more this morning and was able to make it to the litter box twice (with me getting her to the bathroom as a start).
So I spent my time outside of her care today getting a gofundme campaign set up. I never would have done it without your encouragement and I can’t even tell you how grateful I already am. I will get more pics and videos up on the site soon and will keep you posted. I will take any suggestions for editing or adding to the site.

Don’t fall asleep whilst writing, Elvis. And don’t worry. She’s about to have a world of adventure. And wasn’t Trevor the name of that not-a-cat friend of Berts’?
Oh Elvis, so heartbreakingly selfless. We’ve always known the curmudgeon stuff is just an act, dropped in cases like when you protected the baby from the July bug.
“If you feel like leaving, you know you can go
But why don’t you stay until tomorrow?
If you want to be free, you know
All you got to do, is say so. Sarah, smile.” (Hall and Oates)
I just want to pick Elvis up and hug him, but I know he wouldn’t like it. He’s being so brave, wanting to write that letter of recommendation when his little furry heart is breaking. I can’t help it—Elvis is my favorite.
The image of Elvis valiantly struggling to remain professional, and to contain his overwhelming emotions, is reminiscent to me of Walter Cronkite, on that awful day in 1963.
(I’m a bit hesitant to make the comparison, because, of course, the situation is not the same. I hope this doesn’t sound disrespectful.)
I think we can break protocol here and have Elvis dictate the recommendation for Beatrix herself to type. After all, with all those extra toes, she ought to be a wiz at the keyboard.
Ah, I see that the Woman might need to cat sit for Beatrix at times so she will be back at the Pink House from time to time. It will probably need her reorganizing skills again by then.
Beatrix is happy and excited to start her new life… and poor little Elvis is going to miss his tiny pal being around… but chin up Elvis, I have a feeling that you’ll see her again, more often than you think!
You want what’s best for your kids, but sometimes that means saying: “See you later.”
I figured we would have more of an empty house when the kids moved out for college. but the blessing of having a very talented child means that our son was/is away at Conservatory at 14. And we are not talking just down the street, but over 1,200 miles away. That is tough. Lots of blurry screens and missing seeing him grow up. I swear he is taller each time we see him.
So, chin up, smile on, its what they want and need to explore their talent and reach their potential.
Elvis, there’s always a remote camera that Burt can probably set up to get live reports from the bookstore. Plus, Beatrix set up your smartphone, didn’t she?
Elvis, inferior screens are one reason for touch-typing. That skill kinda saved me yesterday morning when my eyes were dilated. Be happy for Bookshop Lady—her life is becoming even richer.
Morning all! My 5K was canceled yesterday. In the intervening 4 hours between when I signed up for it and when I left work, it went from warm and sunny to heavy thunderstorms, complete with lightning, and it was because of the lightning that they decided to reschedule it, although they haven’t yet announced when that will be.
This is actually the second time lightning has interfered with my race plans. (Race organizers tend to take the NFL’s approach: you go in rain, snow, fog, plagues of locusts, etc., but lightning is a dealbreaker.) The first time was a race that went mostly through the concourses of what was, at the time, Invesco Field in Denver. The last part of the course was a loop around the outside perimeter of the stadium. When a thunderstorm started halfway through, they stopped everyone at the exit and held us there for over 90 minutes before the Woman and I gave up and left. Which turned out to be about 15 minutes before they restarted the race.
This morning (again) it was lots of mewing and rubbing. All the while making little jerky dives toward cover, only to turn back for more rubbing and loving. Same as yesterday morning.
I feel sorry for Elvis, seeing one of his beloved heart-children testing her wings and going off on a new adventure. Be glad for her Elvis, she will stay in touch with you often.
Also, on a somber note, today is the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
A lot of us are going through some darkish times these days, emotionally and financially. Sending up prayers and good vibes for all to break through to the bright side, whatever the situation. Stay strong!
This just in…I just caught the bear that tore down part of my Kitchen Garden fence. He was eating the bird seed that my husband put out this AM, as we bring the feeders in at night. And all of my shooing didn’t faze it. I noticed it had a yellow tag on its left ear. And when I raised the garage door up and down, it ran to the back and turned around and looked at me and then disappeared into the forest in the back of our property. I wonder if it was one of the cubs that Mrs. Bear brought to our property 3 years ago. I know Momma Bear and three new cubs ran down our rather long driveway last week. I think I have too many bears for neighbors this year. Just thought I’d share today’s experience with the posters.
Thank you to all for all the support and hugs and boops and such over the last few days. The good news started happening yesterday. I took the VW and trailer back the the VW dealership and told them to fix it. When the guy came back out and started to give me the run-around again I cut him off and asked him why, when we hooked it up to another trailer that had the set-up that matched what they had installed on my car, that trailer had the exact same problem. He finally admitted that the problem had to be with my car and an hour and a half later, he came back and said it was fixed. Sure enough, the problem was exactly what I had told him it was on Monday that he said was impossible. I didn’t say, “I told you so.” though I did think it. I will be so glad when the rest of the world learns to listen to me when I’m right.
Then my daughter and I took the good wheelchair that wouldn’t turn off over to the repair shop and dropped it off and they said they could get to it on Friday or maybe Thursday afternoon. So I took my daughter to get more paperwork and her prescription filled and headed up to the hospital. We got there just as my son was being released. Yay! Then took my daughter to the mall for her movie that she had been waiting to see and went shopping for accessories for my good chair. I stopped back in at the repair shop and they said my chair was ready already. It had just needed a couple of dials tightened. Yay again!
So now my son is at home and doing just fine, my good chair is at home, and everything is going well. Yays all around!
