After you come out, your mother is demonized, your education shortchanged, your life opportunities limited, and your health is in danger. Conservative republiclans are pro-fetus and anti-child. Note the situation on the border.
We all know that the real reason for this anti-abortion law is to get a case before the Supreme Court. But, one legal eagle has suggested that this law isn’t framed correctly since it makes no provision for rape or incest. Because of this difference, the case may not heard by the high court.
Remember, the Republicans ONLY care about a “child” from the second of conception to birth!
THEN, “You’re on your own, kid! NO adequate Health Care, NO SNAP benefits, NO decent education, NO Adequate housing, NO NOTHING… until you turn 18, and we can draft you to send you to war in some hell-hole country to protect the interests of American Oil Companies and our Corporate Masters and their Quarterly Profit Statements! Of course, OUR KIDS won’t be going, just you poor losers!”
In Alabama the father is seldom known so by allowing abortion.. there is a real chance that it could be “your” kin.. thus it gives men the right to control the “situation”.. Makes perfect sense.
Very well, then. The GOP is absolutely “Pro-Life” on the grounds, according to the Governor of Alabama, that “all human life is precious.” So be it. I call on the GOP to call for a complete and total ban on any form of Capital Punishment, because “all human life is precious.” I call on the GOP to ban all guns of any form because their use is lethal, because “all human life is precious.” I call on the GOP to call for the disarming of all police officers and others in similar professions because “all human life is precious.” I call for the GOP to resolve to never permit the United States from entering any military conflict anywhere that might result in any fatalities because “all human life is precious.” I call on the GOP to call for traffic laws that would make any automobile accident fatality a felony because “all human life is precious.”
Does anyone see the problem with this? Pro-LIfe isn’t Pro-Life at all. Pro-Life is merely Anti-Abortion. So either make Pro-Life consistent and drop that mealy-mouthed, hypocritical label, or change it to Pro-Unborn-Life only.
Like any rape, this assault on women by christian men is solely about control and power over women. Republicans concern about a fetus is as empty as their concern about children. They will continue to subvert the laws of our country in order to keep women subservient.
Pardon me a lengthy quote, but from George Carlin:“Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren’t they? They’re all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you’re born, you’re on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don’t want to know about you. They don’t want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you’re preborn, you’re fine; if you’re preschool, you’re fucked.
Conservatives don’t give a shit about you until you reach “military age”. Then they think you are just fine. Just what they’ve been looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers. Pro-life… pro-life… These people aren’t pro-life, they’re killing doctors! What kind of pro-life is that? What, they’ll do anything they can to save a fetus but if it grows up to be a doctor they just might have to kill it. They’re not pro-life. You know what they are? They’re anti-woman. Simple as it gets, anti-woman. They don’t like them. They don’t like women. They believe a woman’s primary role is to function as a brood mare for the state.”
Hmm. I wonder if the republicants are starting all this to draw attention away from tariffs, Mueller, taxes? Pinocchio’s “tax” cuts sure did not do a thing for our family. Of course we are not multi-millionaires. I don’t think he is either, Smoke and mirrors.
The fundamental problem for the anti-woman forces is that the country continues to evolve. We have strong majorities nationwide for abortion rights, and will soon have majorities in even the most benighted states. See The End of White Christian America, by Robert P. Jones. Also for health care, gun safety, education, income inequality, and much more. Hence all of the screaming from the previously entitled.
Pro-life my fat behind! These idiots are pro-birth. Once the kid is born, it and Mommy are on their own and none of these so-called Christians want to have anything to do with helping them LIVE.
In law, when a person is charged with Murder 1, his accomplices are charged as well. At the very least with an “accessory” felony, quite often with the same murder charge. In law, when a person hires someone to murder another person, the charges are typically solicitation AND murder.
How can it be justified to charge an abortion doctor with murder (or any crime) while simultaneously not charging the mother with any crime at all? She is a willing accomplice before the fact and during. Further, she is the instigator of the crime. To put it bluntly, it is the mother who has solicited and hired the contract killer.
Explain to me how you can condemn the doctor but not the mother.
The simple fact is the whole thing is a twisted, very twisted, effort to shove a very twisted interpretation of Old and New Testament down our throats. That IS government legislating religion on the people. Thus the Supremes should either refuse to hear, or preferably, declare these new efforts unconstitutional.
As far as I can tell, the anti-abortionists fall into two camps:
1: There are some who genuinely believe that life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. Some of them are thoughtful enough to realize that there are exceptions, some are not. IMO, every woman who’s anti-abortion is in this group.
2: The majority, though, just want to re-assert male (white) primacy and put women back where they belong: Barefoot, pregnant and powerless. They are afraid of women who think for themselves, and take their lives into their own hands, and that fear pushes them to this sort of extremist behavior. They really do not see how they can retain their complacent “top dawg” position without pushing someone down, and they target folks with vaginas or with darker skin. Or both, of course.
I sometimes doubt that anyone, in their heart of hearts, believes that an embryo is a person in the same way that, say, a six year old is a person.
There is a thought experiment that can produce interesting results if posed to someone who claims to believe embryo = person.
A fertility clinic is on fire. You have a chance to rescue either a six year old girl who is pleading for help… or a canister containing dozens of implantable frozen embryos. Which do you save? How do you justify your answer?
To throw a final kink into the works… I think that some are infuriated in their belief that that birth control or abortion cancels the “punishment” for premarital sex (i.e., having to be burdened with a kid and shamed by the pregnancy) that this is their main reason for their opposition… though they may not be able to face this as the reason.
Hey kid, even in there, they care little about you. If they did, they would pay for your mother’s prenatal care, and of course, they will promptly ignore you once you leave the womb and leave the woman forced to bear you to make do with no additional assistance, saying that it’s her responsibility. Good thing she really wanted you and had absolutely no reason to think of you as the reason for her being forced further into debt and poverty raising someone she couldn’t afford to have in the first place, eh? All the Republicans want is to force the woman to bear you at any cost.
Excellent Mr. Benson. We know that the real ‘pro-life’ person would help children after birth as well as being against the death penalty, war and letting the poor die from malnutrition. These people are more about controlling women.

@SteveBenson8: “I doubt that the Supreme Court will allow itself to be played as fools. In fact, it would not surprise me at all if the justices end up refusing to hear the case.”
Such refusal can only be reasonable if the lower courts declare these laws to be unConstitutional.
Which federal courts will hear these cases before they reach the SCOTUS, and what are their track records on similar issues? Is it possible that the last court of appeals before the Supreme Court would decide that the Alabama law is “Constitutional”, in whole or in part?
