I’ve often said that radicals make the world safe for liberals. This is the equivalent on the other end of the spectrum. When this case makes it to the Supreme Court (and you know that’s what they had in mind), they’ve provided Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Alito, and Thomas with cover for coming up with some drastic assault on Roe v. Wade “but we didn’t go as far as Alabama wanted, so it’s all good, right?”.
Right now, it’s Reproductive Rights. I really think this is just an alpha test on “How Far Can We Go.” I think next on the agenda, now that women are reduced to 2nd Class Citizenship, will be Gay Rights. After all, AIDS is really just a gay man’s disease, isn’t it? So gay men cannot make good decisions, so we’ll make better decisions for them, just like we did for women. And if that works, we can deal the entire LGBT community on the same basis, since anyone of the LGBT community cannot make good decisions, so we’ll make better decisions for them, just like we did for women. When that’s successful, we need to look at the First Amendment a little more closely. After all, there are some religions that are hostile to our national security. That cannot be what the founding fathers had in mind. So maybe we’ll start with Islam as the most suitable religion to push outside First Amendment protections. After all, most Muslims cannot make good decisions, so we’ll make better decisions for them, just like we did for women. And if that works, then perhaps Judaism and Catholicism would be next, since non-Protestant religions cannot make good decisions, so we’ll make better decisions for them, just like we did for women. And when we’ve gotten that bogus religion question settled, we can look at all those Civil Rights laws that have obviously become obsolete. It’s obvious that people of color cannot make good decisions, so we’ll make better decisions for them, just like we did for women. Then we can move on to the protection of a Free Press, or the “enemy of the people.” Most journalists cannot make good decisions, so we’ll make better decisions for them, just like we did for women. Oh dear, oh dear; so much to do to put things “Right.” (Is the “/s” notation really necessary? Oh, very well). /s
If you can’t trust a woman with a choice, how can you trust her with a baby?
Republicans want women out of the workforce, stuck at home, dependent on a man. Disenfranchisement would be ideal, but it’s more difficult to rescind a Constitutional amendment. (Not that they won’t try.)
Having had friends die of pregnancy, having known someone refused an abortion by a judge even though every physician who addressed the court said that neither she nor the fetus would survive the pregnancy, but if it was terminated then at least she would survive, and knowing that of the world’s industrialized nations the U.S. has the worst complication and survival stats, I can not help but be appalled by the recent states’ restrictions. (In Georgia a woman who has a miscarriage will actually have to somehow prove that she did not get an abortion. How does a person prove a negative? I ask that as someone who miscarried and who certainly has known women across the generations who have done so since it is not a particulary unusual outcome.)

If the groom were a real man, he would punch the good Father right in the nose.

In Alabama the groom will now OWN the uterus supports system. Can’t have women making their own decisions after all.
