Socialism. Hahaha. Socialism. Repeat endlessly. The countries that people are running away from are not “socialist”. They are vicious dictatorships. The label of socialist is meaningless. In these countries, MS13 and other groups have prospered. People are coming to the US for a safe haven and a better world for their families. It is legal to petition for legal entry under these conditions.

Are RWNJ’s, like Buzzworld (and Dana Summers), ever going to understand that Venezuela isn’t a “socialist” country?

With all that is going on with Trump and his obstruction of justice, all Summers can come up with is resorting to a buzzword?

Too bad Dana has no idea what the word actually means. He must be stuck in the 50’s again.

So Summers is saying the refugees are running toward a land of happy, celebrating Socialists and this is a BAD thing?

So let’s give the Trump partisans what they’re asking for. If paid family leave, progressive taxes, comprehensive universal health care, and the rest of the modern “socialist” program will deter illegal immigration, then adopt it. More effective than The Wall, more broadly supported, and more beneficial to our country. “Socialism,” Making America Great Again!

They don’t flee from socialism. They flee from dictatorship, corruption and hunger. All that has nothing to do with the program of AOC or Bernie Sanders. What they want to introduce in the US is mainstream policy in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and some other countries in Europe for decades, in these countries even since hundred years: full-covering medicare for all, a basic pension scheme.for everybody, and some other decent services. What the Reps in the US defend or want to reintroduce is a Manchester capitalism where the greediest billionaires take it all and where the most people do slave labor for them, chanting all day “capitalism is the best system in the world and I like to work 16 hours everyday until I die early”.

^ It’s true; capitalism IS the best system in the world and I’d like you to work 16 hours a day and die early.

    Horse puckey.

On the one hand, it’s a lie to call Venezuela socialist: It’s a kleptocracy that calls itself some kind of “socialist” something. Oh, and a lie to claim that what’s going on there is the same everywhere. On the other hand “Democratic Socialism” is just one or two small steps from where we already are, steps which have been shown to work, well, in every other first world nation. Every other first world nation.

I believe that most are fleeing dictators who were set up by the US and crime that was facilitated by the US war on drugs.
