Have you seen how people dress when they fly? Even business travelers are traveling business casual. Everyone else shows up in sweats or worse, pajama pants. :-\
Back in the days (long ago, kiddies) when air travel was pleasant and civilized, yes, people did dress. Nowadays the term “cattle car airways” describes both sides of the equation: the airlines and also the airlined.

Does the necktie have to striped or of paisley design? I think one with cartoon characters (like, say, Bugs Bunny and Marvin Martian) doesn’t count.
