So is Lupin in cahoots with the dryer when it comes to sock disappearances?

My family has a cat that I’ve heard meowing like that. XD In her case, it was out of not wanting to be taken to the vet. She was loud enough that people would turn and look when she was brought in, and at least one person has commented on hearing her from down the street. X3 (She’s calmed down a bit, now, but still meows quite a bit – naturally.)

So Lupin and Smudge are both Mighty Hunters who sing arias throughout the night!

They are all Mighty Hunters and ought to be respected as they deserve.

Baby socks are more tender than adult socks, and thus more highly prized and delicious.

I guess Lupin has to have something to keep him busy in between the 2 AM Running of the Cats and Hairball o’Clock!

Our orange tabby ShiBoi loves to steal socks and his sister Squeaky Pie Blue drags up dirty dish cloths from the laundry room!

No wonder Lupin is so loud when he leaps and lands. He’s not a horse, he’s a rare white lion king.

My cats Cara and Tar like to carry their toys around in their mouths vocalizing the entire time. A real racket.

Consider yourself lucky you have a headboard on the bed. Torsten likes to sit on my wife’s chest and sing his song of discontent at the food bowl being only 97% full. Oh the Travisty! Wake up mama and fix it!

Lupin remember, if Pucky doesn’t get his 16 hours of sleep a day, he’s just not himself.

I love the “dead sock’s” little X’d eyes and tongue sticking out.

Oh look, Pucky’s little white floof patch – so cute. And teeny tiny Lupin hind toe beans as he leaps off to catch more prey. ☺

And that is why sock parents have two offspring. If they can raise both little ones until they are full grown knee-socks, all the better. But with two babies, the odds are better that at least one sock will survive to adulthood.

A Lion of the mind (and heart) fears no barriers.

Our female cat does this, but only when she catches dangerous prey such as toy mice or tent caterpillars.

For safe prey such as real mice, we get no announcement at all.

Yum Yum lies to wake me in the morning by yelling in my ear. I am trying to teach her to leave me alone so at least 6:30, but she persists in starting at 5:30. Sigh.

Good Morning fellow orbsters! I don’t post much, but I have some news! My nephew came across a kitten being neglected by its momma. And took her home. He couldn’t keep her so I stepped in not knowing the exact age. I’m guessing 5-6 weeks as her eyes are still blue! I am using the belly rub to stimulate “potty” and today should I bother buying any kitten milk? Last night and today she feasted like a starving lion on canned food! If you’re a fan of Cole & Marmalade on Facebook, I posted her picture and story on a orange kitten story there. Look for my name Jenn.

Our Jake isn’t a sock hunter, but most nights at 3 am – “OW-ROOOOO!!!”

Lupin looks so regal!

David Cattenborough here and today is the great laundry migration. From rooms all over the Big Pink House, dirty laundry is brought to the laundry room for cleaning. Then – freshly laundered – it is folded and placed in laundry baskets for the migration back. But this is the day that lions wait for and one is already in place.

Carefully he moves forward. He’s picked out a target from the basket and is positioning himself within striking range. Notice how he uses the detergent and softeners to hide his movements. Patience is critical as he can’t leap too quickly or else he risks missing the baby sock. Mother socks keep their young as close as possible and are known to be skittish when lions are near. He must also not catch the attention of the clothes pins high up on the line as they are liable to screech a warning to the sock prey below.

He’s almost in range, carefully placing his paws so as not to make a sound. He leaps in! And he’s got one!

This was my cat Faramir, not nightly but fairly often. We always felt he was calling out to the ladies.

He once went missing, and after three months we had given up hope. My then father-in-law visited the vet, and it was so crowded he was forced to the back… Where there was a photo of a cat that had been found. Faramir had wandered through the bush and found another family who happily looked after him for three months until he returned.

Kiki came out this morning. She is exploring. She noticed the birds. :)

I adore this strip – and Lupin’s fabulous sense of style! That robe and gold watch are just the perfect touch for the “king of the wardrobe”. :)

I love Lupin doing his proud strut in the first panel. The strut that all mighty feline hunters do when they have battled and conquered feisty socks.

Puck is so stylish. Even his sleep mask and his jammies match.

One day the People will move the red sofa and find all their missing socks. Of course by that time, they’ll have thrown away the singles …. or the Baby will have outgrown them.

Puck and Elvis might have been woken up but they’re still diligently covering the news.

In supernatural lore, 3 AM is the witching hour when evil beings are strongest. No, Lupin isn’t a demon, but he sure sounds and acts like one.

This has everything I love about Georgia Dunn’s work. Gorgeous illustrations that really capture the heart and emotions for her feline (and human) subjects, super relatable, and absolutely hilarious. Thank you!

My cat Blake does the same thing! She has a tiny, chirpy voice, though, so she just goes “Ow! Owwww Eeow!” when she brings me socks or makeup sponge wedges. She is a very brave hunter.

I’m absolutely DYING from the ROFLz here – Georgia & the whole Mega-Orb are the greatest!

I think it’s finally starting to sink in that PJ really isn’t coming back…yesterday I decided OK, that week’s worth of dishes (which was always his job) really isn’t gonna wash itself, so I took care of that & did some other cleaning in the kitchen. Tossed his ancient, disreputable coffee pot (we each had our own because he drank regular & I take hafcaf) & reclaimed that bit of counter, & that’s when it sort of hit me that yeah, that’s a sort of beginning of a glimmer of acceptance…

Also, yesterday I “graduated” from wall-to-wall Requiems to the Moody Blues. Awsumest band EVER, still suitably melancholy, & of course I cranked up the volume & was singing along at the top of my lungs & hoping I wasn’t bothering the guy next door. I’ll consider it a major milestone when I can do the same with Queen (PJ’s favorite)…

And today I loaded up the crockpot with green beans (the one vegetable he said he hated, although he wasn’t crazy about any of them – MEN!) & kielbasa for dinner…so I suppose progress is progressing…

Now we know why he goes invisible as Blanket so early in the evening (reallifephoto =>FB)… cause there will be things to do….

OMG, my best friend had a cat that did this! I think he did it most nights. He grabbed all the socks he could find and arranged them in a pattern on the living room rug. My friend and her son called it “Sockhenge.”

One of mine has a nightly habit of licking the faucet in the connected bathroom at around 2 am until someone hears him to get up and get him a drink…. sigh. I am so-o-o sleep deprived!

Nushi Update: In the last 24 hours my girl (OUR girl!) has moved closer and closer to her true self. She is once again playing with several toys, including more chasing and wrestling with her favorite spring and the cat dancer rainbow cat charmer (if you don’t already have one, you may want to consider it. One of our Orbsters has it in the pic along with kitty in their avatar post). I was brushing her on the bed, and she jumped up and did a strafing run at a wrinkle, so I went and grabbed the charmer and she played with it like she hadn’t in months. I’ve realized that there were signs before I went on my trip that I missed. I thought they were part of her growing up, but they were early signs she wasn’t feeling well.

What she did that she hadn’t in a while was grab the charmer and drag it off the bed, into the next room. Where she made sure it was thoroughly dead. Then she grabs it and brings it back up on the bed for me to make it alive again! I love this game and oh, how I missed it! She is continuing to eat and eat and has regained all the weight she lost in that horrible week. And I saw her make the jump from the cat tree to the bed! Now from the lower level mind you, but fear of jumping is one of the things that is mentioned a lot by others treating their cats. I’m so happy and relieved!

I think some Orbsters missed the original story of this and also I’ve been advised to repost the gofundme link, which I will below. The story is on there, and I need to start doing more updates on that site, but I’ve been concentrating them here, because Team Nushi deserves to know!

Nushi had shot #12 yesterday (Saturday), and today is the 1 week anniversary of knowing she was responding to the treatment! Her bounce back is as amazing as the decline was devastating. She still has 72 shots to go at a minimum, so this is a long process, and then we have to see if she needs more! Some do, most don’t. Fingers crossed!

I had an old lady (finally TNR’d) cat from my feral clowder who stole baby socks and left them in my backyard. She’d also steal garden gloves, and move them from place to place, holding her head high and chirring to the glove.

What kind of terrible cat is Elvis that he objects to 3 AM noise and shenanigans?

Edgar (my profile picture) also does this nightly with his baby mousie. Somehow, I feel like he knows right when my breathing slows as I start to drift off, and that’s when he does it.

I had a cat once who spent every night hunting down stick-shaped objects – pencils, pens, straws, toothbrushes, paintbrushes, chopsticks, knives, spoons, combs, etc. – and lining them up in a trail from my bedroom door to the side of my bed. She jumped up on the furniture and countertops searching them down, and wouldn’t rest until the trail was complete. Every morning I had to pick them up and put them back away.

She didn’t announce victory, though. Her only vocalizing was if she was having trouble finding enough pieces, and then it was that kind of mournful warble mama cats make when they’re calling kittens.
