Passages of godly jealousy, anger, revenge, smiting, etc., together with Divinely inspired passages of faithful, sacrificial, life-giving and eternal love: it is for creatures to critically discern their own dirty (projected) fingerprints on their own Sacred Scriptures.
“All idols, by disarming pertinent forms of criticism, distracted their worshipers from more problematic but interesting desires.” – Adam Phillips.
Actually, if there was no sapient life on Earth, things would probably be going along just fine barring natural disasters and such. But then again, there would be no cartoonists to comment on it.
We are stuck in an endless cycle. Generation after generation we repeat the same mistakes as the generation before us. Poverty, war, hunger, inequality. We learn intellectually, but don’t apply it, we gripe, complain, and go about out own way, thinking of only us until the next crises created by us comes along.
Well, God tried the whole reptile experiment and it was going great until he decided to end it with a rock. I am sure he will tire of us and throw another rock so he can start over again.
This is why I think the Rapture and Armageddon and whatever end of the world war already happened. God had enough, took those who were of good souls back then and left the jackasses here on Earth when it was all over, closing his doors once and for all. The jackasses were hoping to appeal to God to take them too and taught their kids NOT to be like them. Didn’t work. That’s why prayers are never answered and why we still have good people and jackasses.

Thank you, Wiley. I’ve always wondered where giraffes come from. They are clearly not Earthly.

Loved that! Thank you!

Well, considering how little good his previous smitings have been, I’d say he needs a new approach.

Considering the big brave “huntress” catching it now was bold enough to shoot a giraffe, perhaps Wiley bears a broader message?

Maybe he could prevent war through smiting. He seems late to the party every time.

Well, giraffes are kosher.

About 9 years ago, I got the entire Old Testament on my iPod (remember those) and listened to it. And I realized 90% of the OT is as follows:
God tells the people “Don’t tick me off.”
The people tick God off.
God punishes the people.
The people repent.
God forgives the people.
God tells the people “Don’t tick me off again.”
The people tick God off again.
God punishes the people again.
The people repent again.
God forgives the people again.
Etc, etc, etc.

Sad to think how much more advanced today’s society would be if religion hadn’t basically banned science for centuries.

God created man for comic relief. Yet, we seemed to be able to produce more tragedies than comedies.
As that get philosopher Walt Kelly said, ’We have met the enemy and he is us."

Our author seems to have forgotten their research on giraffes. They most certainly get violent with each other.

Giraffes are quite fierce with their horns so maybe they aren’t the best example, platypus would have been better.
