I learned how to play Pai Gow. It’s my new obsession, it’s basically 7 card stud poker with some betting tweaks and a different way to lay down your cards. You play against the dealer.
So, the river’s at flood stage up here. Pat and Alpha have been going down to the banks every day to look at it.
Yesterday, they went.
Alpha wanders off for a look around the immediate area as he always does.
He returns, then goes off again.
After the third repetition the human half of the pair realizes that he is always going in the same direction and is, in fact, trying to lead her somewhere.
Pat follows him to the fishing hole Alpha favors.
There’s a shaggy, molting, cow moose and a calf standing there grazing.
Alpha just sits down and looks up at Pat as if to say “There, what do you think of that?”
As Pat later said, “I should have got it the second time he did that – he always has a point to his actions.”
