I would rather have my tax dollars go to a national health plan than to buy yet another dysfunctional fighter jet or bloated government subsidies to corporations already making zillions in profits.
The U.S. pays for quite a bit of the R & D for pharma, there should be a return on thhis investment instead of pharma being able to charge whatever they want. How many stories do there have to be about TRIPLING costs of meds and pharma companies making tweaks to their formulas to extend their patents and prevent generics before price controls are put in place like other developed countries have?
Money going to insurance company execs and the staff that is trained to REFUSE service being moved to actual care is a great start.
Support for education will allow more people to go into the medical field to help with current shortages.
While the idea of Medicare for All is nice, people seem to forget a big thing. Medicare does not pay anywhere near the cost of services to care for the ill and injures. If you are going to expand it to cover 330,000,000 people you will have to increase the amount you reimburse for care. Like it or not. That will cause the predicted cost of this plan to blossom far above whatever the pushers for it think it will be.
Again, I actually like the idea of it, however there is a huge financial bite that a lot of people do not see on this proposal.
Then again, the feds running the VA and Indian Health Service have all done a fantastic job for the past several decades. Sarcasm off.
No premiums or DEDUCTIBLES. You know, the government will actually pay for your healthcare. And most consumers will save money, because their tax increases will be less than what they used to pay in co-pays and premium and deductibles. “We’ll get through this together, Martha.” -Bernie Sanders.
As opposed to the Republicans who want to destroy the public health care system so they can give the money to billionaires, oligarchs and corporations.
Bok is the one living in fantasy land. how many times does the GOP and its flunkies have to reminded that the USA is the only economically advanced nation without some form of universal health care system. In what [expletive] world does Bok live in to suggest universal coverage is a fantasy? Sure say those systems are crap – they aren’t – but don’t deny they exist.
I see that Chip’s still toeing the party line. No premiums? Maybe. No copays? Probably not (I have copays and I’m already on Medicare). Keep your doctor? You think you can with the insurance you already get through your employer (lucky you)? Nope: You’re stuck with doctors who are “in network”… or with paying a much larger amount out of pocket.

Let’s ask Canada how it works. Though it’s doubtful if any of Donnie’s TDS sufferers can understand.

Oh yes, let’s have a national health service. We all know governments have complete competence in all things critical to their citizens.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/03/world/europe/uk-national-health-service.htmlWith luck, everyone will get the high level of service expected at the VA

Bok seems to love and admire the corporate insurance industry method. I wonder why?

“No Premiums”? No, we’ll still have premiums. They’ll just be called “increased taxes”…

Other countries manage health care. Why can Americans not do what everyone else can do?
