    Good morning™, authors and critics!

The guy on the left reminds me of Max Allen Collins, though I suppose he is somebody else that maybe I should know. Anyway, it seems that this intro is about to take us back several decades.

    What the ?

One, another MM that keeps Joe and team as artist.

Two, Tracy in a previous life? (Or career, at least, in a small town?)

In the throw away panel, the Welcome to the Town of Homewood sign says “Waite Wright, President.” What kind of town has a president instead of a mayor?

Homewood as in Homeville? In 1935, Dick Tracy was given a temporary position of police chief at Homeville, crack down the crimes in town. It was also the town’s mayor’s countermeasure toward crime boss Cut Famon’s return. DT’s father and the mayor are friends.

Per Tracy tribute page, Jim cites Tracy’s reassignment to the burbs during 30’s as one of his Top 10 favorite storylines. But isn’t it Homeville, not Homewood? Why the change?

The thing about a black border cover, you notice every dint & finger smudge. Haven’t found a decent copy on shelves yet.

I’ll be curious if the 1st issue of the new mini-series brings new readers to the strip. Maybe the Tar storyline was abruptly wrapped to coordinate a 30’s-themed Issue #1 comic w/ a 30’s-themed Minit Mystery?

Doubtful. BTW, Ralph Byrd did it.

Wait, did Tracy start life as a police chief? Decades ago? Was he never just a simple patrolman?

Homewood or Homeville, it’s all in Tracy’s past now that he’s Chief of Detectives and head of the Major Crimes Unit in the great city of, uhh, well, I like to call it Tracyville, but it seems not to have been given an “official” in-strip name. It’s major newspaper is just The Daily, with no city-name included. But a lot of us think it is (or was) loosely based on Chicago….

So, with the Great Detective, let us return now to those days of yesteryear! Hi-Yo Tracy, away!
