At some point, most nerds feel like a human in the Turing Test that the examiner thinks is a robot.

Here’s a joke: how can you tell if a club is cool? If it’s NOT at school!

This is another thing I love about this strip. It’s cool to be smart! Do I see something developing there? Are they going to … hold hands?

Grace Hopper is one of my all time heroes! I wasn’t lucky enough to meet her, but they were still using some of her videoed talks when I was in USAF tech school back in the late 80’s.

Yesterday, Max was being a nice friend. Today it’s Phoebe’s turn. Before you know it, they’ll be like BFFs or something!

I have been a long time fan of Rear Admiral (lower half) Grace Hopper. One of the developers of the language which became COBOL and of Harvard’s UNIVAC I computer. Her navy rank of one-star admiral was called Commodore during her time.

In the mid ‘80s Commodore Hopper was invited to speak at a computer conference in Montgomery, AL. She told the story of her assignment to the Pentagon. When she arrived, she found the Navy gave her an office and staff, but no desks, chairs, etc. to fit out her section. She quickly found out that to scrounge (steal) the needed equipment that you had to take from the Army. Hopper said the Air Force keep such good inventory that anything missing would be immediately noticed, the Marines would beat the crap out of you if they caught you, but the Army has so much stuff, that they wouldn’t have a clue if anything went missing.
