Are marker lines important, or just happen to be there? (reading very small print) Or was that the point of the note?

I needed a magnifying lens to read that second panel. As for Toonces, Dan should already know that it’s the cat’s bed, not his. Maybe, one of these days, they’ll put the magnifier back on. Maybe in another 20 years, I hope.
I didn’t notice the marker lines until after I’d read the note.
